15. And so too will Obama...
Can you imagine the difference that will make in people's lives.

He's getting Independents and Republicans to vote for him. He has a democratic majority in Congress.

We are on the threshold of tremendous change in this country, and for the good of the people, for once.

20. You're still trying to decide what he wants to do?
Or how he's going to do it?

I've described how he's going to do it. And the internets are full of what he wants to do.

I just don't get your question.

Our government reflects our population. If our people are divided, so to is our government. If our people are united, then our government had better act like they are if they want to get reelected.

Are you sure that you like our country divided?

22. there are hundreds of things, which are the 3-5 we can count on
the divisions in our government reflect less the people and more the power of political parties and symbolism
the people are not as divided as the government

27. Divided govt is not the same as a gridlocked goverment
I'm a fan of divided govt too. I think from an economic perspective, this was a great thing in the 90s. But gridlocked government is different. This is where both parties sit on there side of the hall and yell at one another, without listening to anything the other is saying. At times, one side will cave to external pressure (like the Iraq vote), but this will usually just lead to more insane gridlock.

This is not a good thing for our country. Divided govt? Sure. Gridlocked govt? Absolutely not.

30. Don't know where the dividing line between
divided and gridlock is....

I think the government works too quickly on bad ideas and too slowly on good ideas
I've written before that I've seen plenty of bipartisanship for corporate giveaways
I wouldn't have minded more gridlock there

38. The dividing line, when it works involves both sides...
working toward common goals, not caving on key issues to form consensus. I personally believe that most republicans want health care to work for everyone, even the poor. I also believe they aren't all interested in destroying the environment, and so on. Not all of these things have to be insanely political.

And yeah, bipartisanship on corporate giveaways is pretty bad bipartisanship, but this isn't what Obama is talking about.

42. I disagree. They just have a different way of going about it.
At least a decent percentage of them are interested in this. Even Romney is for everyone being covered, for instance. Bottom line, I really hate the idea that we've all decided the other side is evil to their core.

What this really means is when you look at your neighborhood, you think about 40-60% of them are evil to their core. This is HORRID for our country. Truly it is.

I think we can come together around some real goals. That the different parties have different ways of going about it is a fact of life. Lets HAVE the discussion, lets engage the country, and stop yelling at each other.

44. No I don't think people are evil
except for a very small <<1% of them - the sociopaths for example

Just because someone disagrees with me, doesn't make them evil.
Just because someone agrees with me, doesn't make them wonderful.

I would take anyone of my neighbors over any of the candidates from any election in my entire life.

If Osama bin Laden is believed to be in Pakistan, Obama stated clearly that he would immediately invade Pakistan, despite their having an arsenal of nuclear weapons. That is one of the scariest things about him, IMO.

11. If you are really serious about it, which I doubt you are...go watch
some of Obama's speeches.

Basically he recounts how naysayers put political obstacles before groups and individuals in order to disempower them...

"they say you can't _______blank_______"
"and we say, yes you can"

He will often list a half dozen or more barriers that are broken or need to be broken and then encourages his supporters to defy the negativism and defeatism that grips politics.

And on a more practical matter, his policy proposals are similar to clinton's, anyone telling you different is lying.

For me, the thing I want to improve the most is transparency in goverment and reducting the abuse of government by special interests. Obama has plans to take these on.

It's up to you to actually research the candidates and make an informed decision. It's easy considering you have their websites and google at your disposal.

12. many things
Change the debate from "Dems vs Republicans" to the people vs Corporate Overlords

Increase transparency in government.

Fix our broken educational system.

Get a Dem Majority in Congress

Make the pukes look like "Obstructionists" when they stand in the way of American Progress that he has rallied the country behind.

Finally enact true election reforms.

And so on etc etc.

I'm not posting links to his policies as you've plenty opportunity to read them by now.... if you haven't yet you wont.

"Barack is never going to let you go back to your comfort zones again".

Paraphrased quotes from Michelle Obama's speech yesterday.

Obama can bring this country together. The work is up to US. We'll be responsible for staying on top of things and pushing our legislators. That's how a democracy is supposed to work.

35. Stop the War, Promote Peace, Respect the Constitution, Spread Hope, End Poverty.
But it all starts with winning the Whitehouse and keeping Congress blue for the next 8 years.

Some of us aren't sure that Hillary Clinton would be able to achieve this goal.

Even if it's for relatively silly reasons like young voters seem to respond better to Barack Obama, and swing voters don't want Bill Clinton hanging around the Whitehouse for another 8 years.
