Toward Unity. As an Obama supporter, here is a thread of positive comments about Clinton |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 12:41 PM by berni_mccoy
I have gotten into it with a few DUers on the Obama/Clinton struggler going on here. I want everyone to know that while I respond to attacks in kind, I do not dislike Clinton as a candidate. So, as an offering of hope and Unity, to show that we are all Americans, Democrats and to show that we are not as divided as our current politics would suggest, I offer the following positive comments for Senator Clinton. Please do not spam this thread with hate of any kind.
She truly is a great Democrat. There is no way to denigrate this fact.
She had an amazing plan for Healthcare in the 90's that was literally attacked, destroyed and further stomped on in its grave by the right. It's too bad, because 40 million more Americans would be covered today if it weren't for the baseless attacks from the right (*all* of them) and God only knows how many millions of Americans would be alive today if they had gotten healthcare when they needed. Far more than have died in any terrorist attack.
I believe she had much to do with the FMLA and improving employee benefits throughout the 90's even if she was "the first lady". She had a great deal of influence on these family-oriented policies and her current plan for strengthening the middle-class looks good.
She is tough as nails with the grace of a true Stateswoman. I admire her ability to endure a long struggle and fight. She has the patience and experience to get the job done. And yet, she is also a great lady, a true Stateswoman who I will be proud to call Madam President should she get the nomination.
Her education plan looks strong. It's about damn time we had some serious attention to the education system and in a very urgent way, need to repeal NCLB.
Most of all, I believe she cares. She is a human being that has a strong moral sense of humanity for her fellow human beings. She will do great things for all if she becomes the nominee.
On edit: Note: I believe there are many more positive points about Clinton, but I think the most important one is the last one above.

5. I am an Obama supporter who likes and admires Hillary |
|
In fact, although I will vote for Obama tomorrow in his home state, I am often conflicted over who I want to actually win the nomination. It's partly because I like them both, and partly because I don't want to live with either one of them possibly failing to live up to their expectations.
But what an embarrassment of riches to have two such strong, committed candidates, both of whom have devoted their adult lives to public service and Democratic principles. Both of whom are smart, committed, and politically gifted. Some days I wish I could roll them into one.
I don't think we can lose here, folks. At this point, it's not a question of who the better candidate is or who has the better plans ... it's really boiled down to style and leadership questions--on which each has plusses and minuses.
But I can tell you one thing: this two-person, closely fought contest is a good thing: whoever emerges the nominee will have gone through the trial by fire and truly earned it.

6. Right. Of course there is more upside than downside... |

She's not a Republican, for christsake. One glance at her voting record and policies would tell you that.

7. My differences with HRC are based |
|
on her policy and political decisions. She is obviously one of the smartest and most capable people out there. I think she would be very effective if she won the presidency.

I may have my disagreements with her, but they pale in comparion to my disagreements with republicans. I will have NO feeling of conflict voting for her if she wins the nomination.

I'll go find the thread and kick it. I'd like to see more positive interaction on the board so I've resolved to be part of it when I can.

I, too, am voting for Obama tomorrow - but I sure as hell wouldn't "hold my nose" (or some such other childish activity) before voting for Clinton. She'd be a very capable leader.
Why the hell is it so hard for the rest of DU to be magnanimous?

I do not hate Hillary Clinton and feel no need to rip her apart, not matter how petty the attacks on Obama get.
On the issues, I'm more in agreement with Obama, particularly on health care. However, I think Hillary Clinton is sincere in the fact that she wants to help our country and if elected she will a good and hard-working president. Any problems I have with the Clintons are small in the overall scheme of things and it does not serve the Democratic Party to give air to them here.
The enemy isn't Hillary Clinton. Try John McCain. If he's elected, we can say hello to WWIII.
I happen to feel Obama is better equipped to take on McCain, but if he isn't the nominee, I'll fight tooth and nail for HRC.
