Why John Lewis supports Hillary Clinton
I am originally from Georgia and am fortunate enough to have heard Mr Lewis speak on several occaisions when I lived there. He's one of the few politicians left in America I still respect. I think he sums it up better than anyone with his endorsement of Hillary Clinton. (He wrote this before Edwards withdrew)

Click the link and read his entire endorsement. It is worth it.

"We need a leader with experience

By REP. JOHN LEWIS

Published on: 01/27/08

Martin Luther King Jr. would be proud of the diversity in the Democratic frontrunners for president. There are three senators — a Harvard-educated African American, a son of the hard-working South who happens to be white and a former first lady. This range of opportunity is what the civil rights movement was all about, opening up our society, challenging it to prove its commitment to equal justice, equal rights and full participation for every American.

......there comes a time when you have to choose, when you have to make a hard, tough decision. When I look at the difficulties the next president will confront, I see the need for strong, bold and aggressive leadership, leadership that has been tested, leadership that, without a doubt, can withstand the challenges ahead.

Four years is not much time to change the direction of a nation. We need someone, who from his or her first day in office, can put the needs of the American people back on the agenda and can, at the same time, work to restore our moral standing in the world.

I chose to support Hillary Clinton because she is already respected among the community of nations, and she has demonstrated her ability to lead. I do not see my support of Hillary as a strike against Barack Obama. I am proud of his candidacy and his leadership. He has brought a sense of vision and hope into this campaign. He belongs at the center stage of American politics, but the Republican leadership of the past eight years, in Congress and in the White House, has left this country in troubled waters.

4. Thank you.
One thing I noticed at a recent Hillary rally was that, although everyone was screaming and cheering for their candidate, they were not hysterical. Just calm, well-reasoned people, who are excited about the election. It was refreshing.

5. I heard a AJC writer on POTUS today
and she was saying, Lewis is old guard. And most of the new Democrats in leadership in Georgia support Obama and its showing in the Polls and the area. No one there is paying attention to Lewis. Not even in his own area.

7. Puleeze.....
I can assure you people do pay attention to John Lewis. Anyone dismissing someone of the caliber of John Lewis as nothing but 'old guard' needs a few lessons on what it's like to really accomplish 'change' in America, because John Lewis was and still is at the forefront of fighting for real change. He's one of the most progressive politicians I know.

9. Are you serious?
If you don't know who John Lewis is then you don't know a thing about Democratic Politics or Civil Rights.
