Va. Lawmakers Back ObamaFebruary 4, 2008 - 1:11pm
RICHMOND, Va. - A half-dozen Virginia state senators announced they're supporting Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination for president.
Louise Lucas of Portsmouth said at a state Capitol news conference Monday that she initially backed Hillary Clinton, but Obama won her over because of his broad appeal.
Janet Howell of Fairfax County said she waited all her life for an opportunity to vote for a well-qualified woman or African-American. She said she chose Obama because of his ability to unite people. Howell initially endorsed John Edwards, who has dropped out.
Also attending the news conference were Donald McEachin of Henrico County, Mark Herring of Loudoun County, Toddy Puller of Fairfax County and Henry Marsh of Richmond.
Virginia's primaries are February 12.
