I've been checking this site sporadically for a couple years now, always laughing at the Top 10 Conservative Idiots and laughing my ass off. And so a couple of days ago I decided to get in on the primary debates on this site. What's better than having a discussion with fellow Democrats? Even if we get a little under each other's skin, I think that's good to an extent. We should question each other's candidates. And question our own as well. It's good to argue. It's good to debate.

But I never expected to be called a fascist for having hope that this country could be better.

I never expected to be called a member of a personality cult just because I have enthusiastic support for Barack Obama.

I never thought hope could be called tiresome.

The thought that people in government could get together and solve problems in the best interest of the country - is that a false hope? Is it a false hope to believe that the words of a man could change the minds of millions? It's happened before. This country has been great before. Is it hard to believe we could be great again?

I'm pretty new here as well (been here under two weeks) and even though I'm a political junky, I'm beginning to realize I've spent the bulk of my time here arguing about complete non-issues.

Hillary didn't cry today, and Michelle didn't say she wouldn't support Hillary, but this is what I've been discussing about all day. That is, when I was trying to respond that not treating republicans like they are the root of all evil is a good thing. Truly what a waste. The mock-anger here is just insane.

I was called a freeper, troll, ignorant, newbie, placed on ignore, etc., because I expressed my opinion.

And I have figured out how to ignore and avoid those people. They make fools of themselves and do nothing for their candidate nor OUR party.

There are a lot of sane people here, it's just that the rabid, fanatical bunch are all screaming so loud, you can't hear the grown-ups.

I remain very, very hopeful that those on this forum will consolidate once the primaries are over.

31. Primary time is the WORST time to be a newbie here.

The number of trolls triples (at least) so that makes everyone with a low post count a "suspect". It's not a great thing, but it's true.

Then there is the chance that there are trolls who want to make newbies feel really bad so that they leave and start bad word-of-mouth. I'm not saying that this is what specifically happened in your case, but you never know.

It would be great if you give this site a chance - at least past 100 posts. This is an awesome site. You cannot let people get you down. It saves having to pick yourself back up.

I spent much more time reading, lurking, learning. I found it disturbing at times, but, I also found a kindred in the passion people have for politics and for their candidate. I have found that if you calmly think out responses and examine how they will effect peoples impression of your post, you, as well as your candidate, the much better both of you are for it.

Being a crass, obnoxious, mean-spirited poster, on your candidates behalf is counter-productive. I'm not speaking of anyone in particular, truly, just in general. I skip the obvious baiting posts and use the ignore button frequently.
