Right now the talk is "Dem race wide open, but GOP race is overwith." That's about to switch.

Here's my prediction: I suspect on Wednesday, Senator Obama is going to perform well, but lose by wide enough margins in enough states (particularly New York & California) that the "not his year yet" meme will start to set in. Clinton won't win in Illinois, but if she can close the gap in Massachusetts and hang on in New Jersey, her losses in a few Midwest states won't keep her from appearing to be the prohibitive front runner.

(For disclosure purposes I'd rather see Obama with the nomination, but I'm adjusting my attitude now to be able to support Clinton, if my wild guesses here pan out. To those of you concerned that the party can't fully line up behind either candidate... I want to remind you that DU is not an accurate slice of the electorate. People hold onto grudges and grouse irresponsibly online, but even DU will come around after the nomination is settled. By September this will all have faded away. John Kerry had precious little support on DU at the start of the 2004 cycle, but quickly became our accepted and widely acclaimed party leader.)

On the other hand, I wonder if the Republicans are in for a shock when Mitt Romney scores a big victory in California's Republican primary. This could throw the GOP race wide open and lead to a welcomed couple of weeks of continued rancor and name calling. Coupled with a strong showing by Huckabee in the South tomorrow, we could see a whole new race shaping up among our lunatic friends in the other party.

Share you rancor-free predictions here. Personal request, however... if you can't stifle your snark, share in another thread. I want to reserve this one for the grown ups.

3. California is NOT winner takes all for repugs

McPain has huge leads in all the winner-take-all repug primaries.
