Alabama redneck for Hillary
My friend Carl is the quintessential Alabama redneck.
Or that's how he would appear to you.
Big burly guy with a respectable gut and shock of white hair.
Outdoor kinda guy. Loves to fish for red snapper out in the gulf and hunt deer on his timber acreage near Montgomery.
Does a hell of a crawfish boil, turkey fry, and smoked Boston butt (last night, yum).
Drinks Crown and water. Not much water.

Not much 'book larnin', but a smart guy.
One of the most generous and kind men I've ever met.
Made his considerable fortune in running his own disaster cleanup business for over 30 years.
Think FEMA contractor, but one of the really good ones who knows what the hell he's doing.
He is highly respected in our neighborhood.

A few couples are over for drinks and dinner recently.
Mostly repug.
Our area is heavily repug and I usually don't talk politics with my repug friends.
But it came up that night.

Two or three immediately started hating on the Clintons.
Carl listened for a minute and then said "Well, I don't know...but I gotta say I had my best 8 years in bidness an' just about everthang else while Bill Clinton was in. He knew what the hell he was doing.
I lak ol' Hillary too. She is one SMART lady. I clould vote for her."

Blow. Me. Down.
I'd never discussed politics with Carl.
Just figured he was repug.
Ya never know.
:-)

4. Celebrate. What will you do?
That was Carl's story, not mine.
I already voted for Edwards in the primary.
And I'll vote for whoever is on the 'D' ticket in November.
OK?

8. Oh, vote for a black man?
I've heard a few folks, not close friends (happily), say "I just don't think I could vote for the nigger."
BTW, I think it's juvenile to use 'n*gg*r' or some such.
"Oooo, I didn't use the 'real' word."
That's just silly and prissy.
There are times when the word should be used, in context or quote.

In another post I told about a white woman (not particularly bright), who is an avowed Democrat, who told me she couldn't "get past his purple lips. And what was that little nego dance his wife did after the debate?"
She immigrated down to coastal Alabama about 15 years ago from Detroit.

But yes, there's still that.
And not just in the south.
It will sure be interesting to see how all that works out.

11. here in the oil patch after the KFC Hillary joke gets passed around, I hear the same thing
they all agree she's tough as nails (and in this area we have some TOUGH women around and the guys know it, so it's high praise) smart as hell and probably would do a pretty good job 'with them A-Rab bastards'

around here the men all work in the mines or the oil fields so the community and local government is run by women for the most part. I am shocked at how kindly these 'good ol boys' speak of HRC. will they vote for her?? I dunno, but they mostly respect her.
