Michelle Obama wows partisan Utah crowd
By Cathy McKitrick
The Salt Lake Tribune
Article Last Updated: 02/04/2008 03:00:12 PM MST

About 1,000 Barak Obama supporters showed up at the Salt Palace Convention Center to hear his wife Michelle Obama speak. (Al Hartmann/The Salt Lake Tribune)

Michelle Obama, wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, urged close to 1,000 Utahns at the Salt Palace today to set aside cynicism and re-engage in the political process.

"This is a person-to-person campaign," Michelle Obama told the noon-time crowd. "Barack is going to demand that you stay at the table of democracy forever."

The brief campaign stop, part of the lead up to the primaries of Super Tuesday, drew young and old alike.
Hearing Michelle Obama's compelling personal story resonated with Salt Lake City resident Susan McCain because of the common ground they share.

"We were very excited about having a McCain in the White House or at least a woman my age," McCain said. "But now Barack is the only one that makes any sense."

3. They're doing it right.
I heard today on CNN, HRCs campaign/pr person say that they're focusing on state's they care about right now. I thought to myself, "Care About?!?!". I'm sure I read to much in to it - but it goes so much with the politics of yesterday - where only the big states and swing states matter. But I'm telling you - Utah Matters, Idaho Matters. All those states with so few democrats, do matter.

5. Michelle "gets it"!!
She shows an empathy and understanding that no one else can. When she spoke of how they are only two years past paying off their student loans--she touched my heart. She knows what we're going through and verbalizes it--because they've been there to at least some degree.

Right now I need that. Someone who's been there to at least some degree, someone who can see our plight with a sense of ownership--not merely as an observer. .

I'll be praying tonight and tomorrow for americans to open their hearts and to give hope and change a chance.

12. Michelle Obama could
almost make anyone understand how they would definetly be the best choice for our country. I loved hearing her yesterday at UCLA with Caroline Kennedy, Oprah, Stevie Wonder, and Maria Shriver!
