8. Yep.
If Hillary (or any other presidential candidate) had run for a national office unsuccessfuly the constant refrain would be - "Hillary Clinton, after losing her first race for national office, came back to win blah, blah, blah."

I am actually shocked to find this out tonight.

As I recall it wasn't; the media had other things to talk about wrt Kerry. As they do Obama.

Not of the Daley machine, that's what most are missing, he wasn't even the machine candidate in the primary for the Senate in 2004. He was in a field of 6 other candidates and won over 50% in the
primaries and all the others got the rest combined. Google Barack Obama + Chicago Reader.
