I was always dismissive of the "hope" thing. No more. I saw it in the faces that were lit up as they saw Barack walk onto stage ... the joy in young and old at what Barack represents. I was particularly moved to hear a conversation between two very young African-American boys as we left the rally. They were about 4 and 5. One mentioned how Barack might be the first black president. The other said that maybe he too could someday become president then!

If you missed it, these are the mords of one of our most idealistic, starry eyed, optimists  jackson_dem. With all the talk about historic, we forget sometimes how a Clinton or Obama presidency will change the way our children see the world. These are proud days to be a Democrat.

1. I think we're seeing "hope in action" all around the country...
People in my town seem so much more upbeat now than they did in November and December ~ and there are lots of Obama bumper stickers around town!

5. Educational? Educational does not line up with swooning over rhetoric.

6. Yeah, a lot of kids swoon and are "inspired by watching a Britney Spears concert...
Does that mean I should join them and become a mindless drone myself? NOPE!

Not saying that Barack Obama is Britney Spears of course. He probably has a lot more depth than she. But I was using that example to illustrate a point that it HAS to be more than just the excitement itself that gets people like me excited. I don't just feed off of other people's excitement on something. I need to PERSONALLY feel excited about some core substantive message myself. Then I can feel that people are feeding off of others' excitement on that which can have me join such a crowd and get inspired. But I still fail to see the source of excitement yet. Obama's core message still hasn't reached me yet. Using words like "hope" or "change" by themselves don't do it for me. I'd really like to understand his REAL message before I vote tomorrow, so that I don't short change him if I'm missing something. But if I don't feel that I understand that real message before tomorrow, my vote is going to Edwards.
