of hoo-ha and generalities. Declaratives sentences, with DETAIL in them. Not a lot of Blah, Blah, Bullshit.

IMPRESSIVE.

116. F.E.M.A.?
Make it independent again, not buried in Homeland security. Don't only use F.E.M.A. for emergency response, also emergency preparation. Get the right people and give them the authority they need to act.

It is a heartbreak.

136. Uh, it's NOT a boo boo--your mom is correct. See the fourth definition.
It is a useage that was more popular about a half century ago, but your mom is NOT wrong:

adj., -li·er, -li·est.
1.Not attractive or good-looking: a homely child.
2.Lacking elegance or refinement: homely furniture.
3.Of a simple or unpretentious nature; plain: homely truths.
4.Characteristic of the home or of home life: homely skills.

9. Aw, she is wonderful.....
She certainly knows her stuff and she looks great tonight.

Chelsea was wonderful. When she spoke of how her mother was the person dearest to her heart, I almost teared up.

The fact that there are Obamans flipping out about this town hall in these threads and elsewhere on GD-P makes me think she must be doing pretty darn good.

The more I see her, the more I like her. She'll make a great President.

74. the war that HRC continues to fund too?
And what was the reason? I believe Biden said that the troops were without critical equipment that they needed to be safe. Body armour, etc...

The FACT that our troops were sent into battle with inadequate equipment didn't come to the fore until later on after the war was well underway! Shamefully!

Many senators voted to fund the bills for funding. They tried to insert timetables, but bush threatened to veto them. Instead of denying the troops what they needed, they voted to fund. This is not only supportive of Obama's position, but Hillary and Biden too.

If all of you hillary supporters as so against the votes to support funding, where were you when Dennis Kucinich was in the race?????? He was the only one who voted to cut off funding of the candidates!!!

I for one don't want our kids to be without what they need! The trick was not going to war in the first place when it was unnecessary!

Try not to be such hypocrites when you attempt to support your candidate.

115. HA!
You're killing me.

Obama's been all over the map on the war. He was against it, he said he didn't know how he would have voted had he been privy to the intel, he voted the same way on funding as Hillary did since becoming Senator.

And now he's out there side by side with Kerry who voted for the IWR.

And you want to tell me about hypocrisy?

She did the weekend news for YEARS, and should have gotten the weekday slot when Peter Jennings died.

She is smart, sharp, personable, lovely and witty....but she is one of those "invisible women of a certain age" that those idiots who make the decisions mistakenly believe that fellahs don't want to look at or listen to.

I heard her speak at a commencement at Howard a few years back--she is just swell.

She praises Edwards. Says no one who works full time in America should be in poverty, they need a living wage. Health care impacts poverty so that focus is important. International trade agreements must be fair. She says both she and Edwards believe in a strong Labor movement. When organized labor shrank the standard of living of workers fell. We need checks and balences - Organized Labor is a check on big business.

178. I've actually been reconsidering Hillary lately.
I think she is the most intelligent candidate running, and she has an institutional knowledge that Obama doesn't. I also like her very detailed plans. I'm struggling with how she activates the right wing base, and, frankly, her IWR vote was a big deal for me, and I don't know if I can overlook that. I'm trying to give her every chance before the caucus tomorrow.

184. Hillary is running just two points behind Obama in head to heads againstg Obama now
in some recent polls. She has been attacked almost daily for over a decade, her negatives are priced in. Obama hasn't faced the buzz saw yet. Most voters, much like you, have not really seen Hillary present herself very much until now. She is the one who has upside potential with voters in a general election. She knows how to take an attack and keep on ticking AND she really knows the issues Americans care about, and that shows.

Polls show Americans are caring most about the ecomony, and Hillary is strong on domestic issues. But she is polling better on Iraq over Obama by 8 points among Democrats. Her IWR vote won't be a political liability against a Republican like McCain who still advocates for this war and who says Hillary is now waving the white flag of surrender. The arguement with him will be over what is next not over who more enthusiastically gave Bush the authority to attack Iraq 5 years agao.

I would prefer it if Hillary had opposed the IWR also, but she says that knowing what she does now she would not have made the same vote then. I believe her on that and I know that she would not have used an IWR the way that Bush did. The U.N. inspectors would have gone into Iraq but they would have stayed and finished their job, proving that nation had no WMD's and there would never have been an Iraq War. Hillary has enough experience on the world stage that the Experience factor won't favor McCain heavily - and she can take him down by defending a Democratic platform. I'm afraid Obama's thin national resume can be the distraction McCain needs to scare undecided voters into voting for him in 2008.

186. Thanks for the thoughts.
I'll definitely take them under consideration. I like the idea of Hillary's negatives being "priced in". There is a part of me that feels like Obama is headed for a major fall. He really still hasn't been properly vetted by the press, and there's the Rezko trial to consider, too. I saw him on NBC Nightly News tonight, and Brian Williams said, "Some people are concerned that your lack of experience means that you'll wither under the attack of the Republicans."

Obama replied, "Isn't that what they said about the Clintons? That I couldn't face up to their machine? I think if I'm the nominee, this process will have shown that I've been through some very vigorous scrutiny and stood up to it just fine."

My mouth literally dropped open.

This has been the most cordial primary season imaginable. I do think that Hillary purposefully mislead people about Obama's "Reagan" quotes, and I'm sympathetic to the argument Obama makes about needing a transformative president on the liberal side, but he left himself wide open for those attacks, and other than that, Hillary has really treated him quite delicately.

The general election is going to be a whole different ball game. What "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" tactic will they use on him? I don't know, but if he thinks it's gotten as nasty as it's going to get, he's in for a rough education.

To be honest, I really wish Hillary *had* been harder on Obama during the primaries so far. She is very focused on being "likeable" and I know his race makes him an object of sympathy when he is pointedly attacked, so it's not easy. But Obama remains an unknown quantity in many areas.

At any rate, I've got about 16 more hours to get comfortable with my decision. I appreciate your thoughts. I know I'm just one vote, but there are millions of people going through the same thought process I am. The results are gonna be interesting.

187. It is a tough choice
I didn't automatically gravitate to Clinton, I really had to work it through for myself. Actually in 2006 I supported her Democratic NY State Primary challenger, Jonathan Tasini. I knew he couldn't win but I thought Hillary needed a shove from the left.

But I do believe that Hilary is as solid an all around campaigner against withering attack as the Democrats can run with. The issues all favor Democrats, the Republicans can only win if they scare people into thinking that the Democratic Candidate isn't really up for being President - especially if McCain, but Romney to an extent also, is their nominee. Both of those guys are hard nosed with heavy resumes. They have much more to work with with Obama in that regard. He is more of a blank slate and a blank slate becomes an issue in itself.

I agree with you that Hillary has been careful not to really rough up Obama. It must be frustrating for her to watch the media give him celebrity status without really cross examining him. But the Obama campaign has been very skillfull at making Democrats angry at Clinton whenever she does go negative on Obama, so he has avoided most harsh treatment. We see that the same, so I don't know how he will do in a campaign where he can't simply say "my oponent will say anything to win" and think he can win just by saying that.

And I think Hillary still has an activist soul inside her - I think she will work hard for some positive achievements if she becomes President. HAve you seen this speech by her from May of 1969?:

159. Wow! quite a response from Boise Idaho!
How will you address the "divisiveness" bull crap?

I will stand on core Democratic values, McCain will be easy to take on because he just wants to continue Bush policies. I know how to run a campaign and defend against attacks from the Republicans, already got it done in NY.

164. Very good
I was very impressed. I'm glad I caught what I did of it. Watching that made me feel much better about the possibility of her being our candidate. I appreciated the specifics she shared.

You Hillary supporters have every right to be very happy and proud of your candidate. :toast:

172. "No reason for our students to become indentured servents to the loan industry"
Offer low interest government loans, offer National Service opportunities so people can serve and have debts forgiven. Students feel forced to take jobs in careers they don't want just to pay off their loans. Higer Education has to become affordable again.

182. But yet she isn't offering more grants
or doing to do anything serious to bring down the cost of college. More typical Clinton approach of talking about problems and then offering vague, safe positions that don't really address the fundamental problem.

174. Just finished watching Hillary's town hall meeting and
I love and respect her so much. She will lead this country in the right direction. Listening to her answer EVERY question clearly and precisely was something to behold. She gets it! She really loves the american people and our country. She cares about others in the world also. I was already a supporter, but will donate the rest of the $ amount my husband & I are allowed and believe me we can not afford that kind of money. However we can not afford to not to elect her and neither can the world!

I love you Hillary! Now go get em' girl!!! I am so proud of her.

188. Damn Hallmark cut it off in mid sentence! And Hillary's site was too busy to get on...
will there be a transcript of the rest? It was cut off on Hallmark here at 9:59 exactly, damn them! For a stupid movie no less, which of course is FAR more important than a presidential election. :eyes:

Hope there will be a transcript. Did they read any questions from the web?

She was fab! She talked about ISSUES! Explained her plans! Look, I was for Edwards way back. And tonight I even played a game with my mind; I tried to find something wrong with her, poke holes, find a flaw, something I didn't like. I couldn't. She's intelligent, articulate, experienced, has well thought out plans, a fantastic resume. I have nothing against Obama, he just doesn't have the experience, is too arrogant at times, and this just isn't his time. He hasn't even completed ONE Senate term! We all complained about Dimson not having enough experience. That would be heading right back into it! His time is down the road.

Hillary is for now!
