I find Huckabee hard to dislike
as long as I completely ignore his policies and his views. :)

Anybody who is watching on CSPAN should agree.

Perhaps the best public speaker I've seen since Bill Clinton. He's engaging, and this is coming from a guy who hates everything he stands for.

3. That's the point...he's a very likeable guy.
His policies are crap and he's crap, but he's likeable and that's what makes him scary.

You know, the Repubs like to talk about being the closest to Reagan, well Huckabee may just be...except even Reagan may find him a bit too extreme religiously.

If it weren't for Huckabee's constant blatant discussion of religion, he probably would be at the top of the nomination.

4. My point stands. There is NOTHING likeable about Huckabee - regardless of his policies.
I guess that is the main difference between Obama supporters and Hillary supporters - being able to judge a person by more than just the veneer of personality they display.

I think you're confused here. Even evil people can be likeable. In fact, that's how they gain popularity in the first place.

Who's being fooled here?

If I were fooled by Huck's act, I'd be supporting him or I wouldn't mind if he won, but I don't support him and I won't be happy if he even comes close to sitting in the White House.

27. I can see why people find him likeable, though.
I don't like him...but I can see why people do. If you're tuned out of the political scene and you don't know much about Huckabee and you heard him speak, there's a good chance you'd find him likeable, too.

But since we know where he stands on the issues and know his real character, we don't like him. But that's us, people who know his background and what he's done, where he stands and what he wants to do. Many voters don't and that's what makes him scary.

People who do not pay attention to issues and vote on PERSONALITY or CHARM would be charmed by the guy.

And if you think people don't vote on superficial things like that, you're fooling yourself.

Just sayin....

People like Huckabee, Hitler, Stalin,* Junior all have the same qualities they are sociopaths who become more dangerous once they acquire power.

I have always considered Fuckabee the most dangerous of them all because of those qualities you described.

Other than that, ya gotta give the guy some credit. He comes up with some pretty funny shit and watching him play bass to Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd is pretty surprising, to say the least.

Now if he was in a stronger position to get their nod, I probably wouldn't get as much of a kick out of him. ;)

BTW, I agree with you that some of his views and policies are right the fuck out there.

His stances on issues are in the Batshit Crazy territory, but he can tell a good joke, he speaks plainly and humbly, and he has a wonderful ability to put listeners at ease.

If Romney didn't have so much money to throw away, he'd be out and his support would go to Huck.

Strange how someone can be so good at communicating concern for average folks, and connecting with them, and yet have such basically heartless policies like the FairTax.

39. You'll like this: Michael Stipe Charmed by Huckabee
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - It's the end of the world as we know it, just like the R.E.M. song goes. The band's singer, Michael Stipe, says he finds philosophical foe Mike Huckabee "charming" and "funny."

Apart from their southern roots and musical acumen, the liberal rock star has nothing in common with the conservative would-be world leader. But Stipe recently called the Sirius Satellite Radio show Jane Radio to admit that he may be losing his religion.

"I can't think of probably a single issue in which I am even remotely in the same universe as that guy ... and yet, he was kind of charming and ... self-deprecating," Stipe told Jane Radio host Jane Pratt, a day after watching Huckabee's Thursday appearance on CBS' "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson."

"He was actually kind of a good sport, and funny, and I don't know what that means. Maybe it's a good thing that's he's being lauded right now by the right. He's an evangelical. May God bless all living creatures but my god ... how weird."

50. I know where you're coming from
And it's why I'm more concerned about Huckabee winning the nomination than McCain. How often, during the '04 election, did we hear that crap about voters liking Bush because he seemed like a good guy to have a beer with? Like it or not, THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of voters choose their candidate based on similarly vacuous criteria, and Huckabee has that folksy, down-home charm thing that voters who don't care about issues respond to. I wonder how many voters who don't really follow politics but watch Comedy Central would vote for him based solely on his Colbert Report appearances. Huckabee is DANGEROUS. He's a batshit-insane fanatic who can convince gullible people around him that he's a great guy based solely on his likeability factor. If Huckabee's the nominee, or on the ticket, there's a very good reason to worry. We've seen how even a few hundred votes can swing a crucial election. We don't need uninformed people voting for a right-wing fundamentalist zealot because they think he's a funny guy.
