California voters: what are your opinions on Props 91 through 97? |
|
I already know how I'm voting on 94 through 97, but haven't marked my ballot yet on 91, 92 or 93.

2. A good friend of mine is very involved with Indian tribes here, |
|
he's half Indian and he works closely with many of the reservations. I asked him about it and he said, "I support those! I'm glad they're playing hardball, finally!" I trust his judgement on all things Indian-related, as he is heavily involved in health services for many of the reservations, and he knows personally some of the people who have been appearing in the TV commercials in favor of those propositions. So I am going by his recommendations as far as those.

91: No. It's a no brainer...even the people who put it on the ballot say vote NO. It's redundant and wasn't supposed to be on the ballot.
92: Yes. Despite the territorialism and infighting between the teachers unions on this one, the measure is still worthwhile. It will decouple community college funding from K-12 funding and help to expand class offerings. It's expensive, but CC's still give the most bang for the buck and are badly underfunded. If the economy continues to implode we'll be very happy to have a low cost CC system to learn new job skills.
93: No. I know the official party position is Yes, but term limits should be repealed if they want them gone. This gimmick to extend the terms of current legislators is a bad idea. If term limits are a problem, get rid of them. Despite the endorsement of both political parties, just about everyone I know is voting against this thing.

I generally consider more money for education, especially money that makes higher education cheaper and available to more people, to be a good thing.
