ABC Nightline: "Obama is hoping to run the board" on Super Tuesday |
|
Impossible hope, maybe; but Obama has no such expectation. An assortment of wins and close losses is the most the campaign is realistically hoping for.
And a few minutes later the "reporter", David Wright, said Obama and Hillary had crossed paths twice recently, once when "Obama appeared to snub Clinton" at the State of the Union and then at the last debate when "Obama appeared aggressively chivalrous" in pulling out Hillary's chair.
Extremely lame coverage in the night before the mega-primary. Horserace and scattershot coverage of campaign accusations and rumors.
Ah, how far Nightline has fallen post-toupee.

1. He'd have an outside shot, given the big trend toward him, if it weren't for early voting |

2. The chair-pulling-out was clearly an attempt to self-innoculate against the Snub. |
|
David Wright was "spot on." I guess after the SOTU, Axelrod realized he had to start choreographing the O-man's movements, as well as write his lines.

7. Eh, I expect it needed to be done because not doing it would be considered unchivalrous.... |
|
Unrelated to the mythic "snub", in my opinion, but ops differ.

6. That's what I'm saying. Those were the words of the reporter. |
|
Sort of reading into a non-event, in my opinion; along with perpetuating the "snub" narrative. Just sloppy. And irrelevant to the election issues.
Low grade "journalism." But what do you want from a program hosted by Terry Moran. (actual spelling)

4. They both want to win, to "run the board" |

Amazing insight again by the MSM.

8. Exactly. Though Nightline's spin of "Obama hopes to run the board" ... |
|
... frames anything short of that as a disappointment. Setting expectations prior to an election is important in post-election interpretations, and Nightline pulled that expectoration from some bodily orifice.

10. I think it'll be a virtual draw, from the polls and what I've read |

I hate that the media will try to spin an Obama victory as a loss.

13. Virtual, yes. Obama will win fewer states, I expect... |
|
In my view, Obama coming close is a victory. But we'll see how excessive the spin is. Hopefully, it won't be soooo extreme that it deflates the momentum.

5. I thought he'd try to kiss her hand. |
|
I told my daughter that, if she let him, she lost the election.
The handshake incident is a trivial one, but it does speak to his petulance.
` Not very good judgement for a Prez and we already have one like that.

That has been debunked by some other DUer with actual pictures, rather than hypothesis. It was a media creation.

The best thing for the party would be for Obama to run the board tomorrow, and give the party a chance to unite behind him.

14. Well, yeah, it's my hope to... but it's bad form for ABC News to portray that as Obama's hope ... |
|
... as it sets that as the campaign's target for success, which will obviously not be met. (barring some sort of Giants v Patriots upset)
And, yes, Obama "running the board" would be devastating; even winning a majority of states may be if coupled with a significant delegate margin. As the underdog, he can afford to be on the losing side more than Hillary.
