Edwards Did Not Mandate Health Insurance
His health insurance plan never relied on mandates to reduce costs, implement subsidies or tax credits, bring everybody into the system, create a public system, not any of it.

He always intended to take all of these steps FIRST, and then mandate the insurance after the programs were fine tuned and working well.

"Once these steps have been taken, requiring all American residents to get insurance."

You can't end homelessness by mandating people to buy a home. Vagrancy laws have not ended homelessness. Mandates will not provide universal health care.

1. People can't deal with reality
is that it. If a pundit or a blogger or an expert didn't say it, it just can't be true. People can't read and think for themselves, is that it.

Edwards' plan did not rely on mandates, not ever. It's right there in his web site and has always been there for everybody to ignore.

2. you're right
mandates are based on this erroenous notion that a large number of people choose NOT to buy insurance even though they could afford it. and apparently the reason they do this is they can get "free" health care if they don't have insurance.

3. The Krugman argument
is that mandates are necessary to bring everybody in and drive costs down.

Yet, Edwards own plan says it doesn't rely on mandates. It's going to enact all the cost saving measures, the public program, the tax credits, all of it. AFTER the program is working and costs have been driven down, THEN he is going to require everybody to join.

The argument that has been made isn't based on the facts. I don't understand why people can't read the words for themselves and come to the obvious conclusion.
