Did You Ever Imagine You Would See "Billary" All Over DU?
I can't say that I did, yet there it is, plastered all over DU, along with just about every other right wing slogan from the 90's kulturkampf, mouthed this time by pious Democrats.

If this is the new politics of hope, it looks an awful lot like the old politics of hate.

1. I don't necessarily
see it as a negative term. They are campaigning as a team and at times the merged name seems to fit. I am sure some are using it as a negative term though.

5. The GOP crotchsniffers of the 90's certainly saw it as a negative.
Of course, all that is ancient history, I guess.

18. I think a lot of the party was disappointed in his Presidency
NAFTA, DADT, DOMA, welfare gutting... er... reform, losing both chambers of Congress, the feel-good but do-nothing-except-piss-people-off AWB, and the relentless, relentless nudging of the party to the right. The relentless expansion of globalization and the utter marginalization of those of us who were trying to warn about its dark side (which turns out to be pretty much all of it). A soaring stock market when real wages were stagnant. Obviously I hate what the right-wing attack machine did, but I also didn't like the Carville/Morris governance-as-perpetual-campaigning mode. When I look back at 1990's politics I'm forced to compare it to the Battle of Verdun and it doesn't make me less of a Democrat to wonder if there's not a better way.

It was nowhere near as bad as *'s administration, but that's not saying much, is it? Nader was wrong to say there's no difference in the parties (which was why I voted for Gore), but his message only got traction because the previous 8 years had seen the Democratic party move so far to the right.

On a personal level, I love and admire the guy*, and obviously he did a lot better than GHWB or Dole would have, but the 1990's were hardly a good time for liberalism in this country.

* but, yes, my respect for him went down a lot when he lied about the affair with Lewinsky. It just did, and I don't feel any need to apologize for that, and I don't feel like it makes me less of a Democrat. I feel like he squandered a lot of opportunities.

Why WOULD I give a crap about Monica?

"The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the foe, that' all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!"

"cultlike" Messiah" "coke user" "Too far left" "Utopian" etc.

Any of those words often used to describe Obama and his supporters could come just as easily out of the mouth of Rush or his ilk.

12. I missed the 90's
Billary just seems like a funny play on their names, similar to Bennifer or Brangelina. Not really a political thing.

That being said, I don't buy Hillary's claim that she's more electable because people have already used these anti-Clinton memes in the 90's. They are still going to be part of the arsenal as far as the vast right-wing conspiracy is concerned.

They can lie, they can divide, they can outright troll by supporting a candidate in one post and trashing him/her in the next, and nothing will happen to them. Because every registration represents a real or potential donation, and that's all that matters here any more.

20. Since the Clinton campaign started to use Bill in a big way, it's legitimate.
The Clinton campaign took a big risk having Bill play such a big part in this campaign. Headlining his own events and speaking to reporters. He is not just your typical candidate's spouse. He was President for 8 of the past 15 years. No wonder folks start to get confused if this is all about Hillary or if it is about the Spirit of 1992 and "putting the Clintons back in the Whitehouse".

We're SICK of both "The Clinton" and "The Bush" families monopolizing our Executive Branch. Perhaps "Billary" is a little harsh, but to me it is REPRESENTATIVE of what would be a THIRD (x3) DLC staffed Executive Branch within 20 years!

She's running as the "Continue the Clinton years of the 90's" campaign. Sure, those were great times, but things are different now and he had his turn in office. I want to vote for a candidate who stands on their own, not coasts on the back of Bill's record (which is mixed, in my opinion).

And his understudy, Karl Rove, probably pisses himself with glee reading this trash.

DU has become the repository of all the right wing talking points and they are
slung around by pretend Dems hoping to drag the place down to the lowest
possible level of discussion.

What makes me sick is that they have been so successful. This place is a sewer
of useless, derogatory, infantile remarks.

All of DU is diminished by allowing right wing talking points and tactics to
become acceptable means of discussion.
