they called Dean supporters a "cult" as well
Four years ago, Dean = Satan on DU.

He wasn't really against the war (becuase he would have supported the biden-lugar alternative bill),
he was homophobic because he signed the landmark civil unions bill in a non-public ceremony,
he had no foreign policy experience,
his state was too small,
his state was too white,
he dodged the draft,
he was "angry",
he was a bigot because he wanted to reach out to "people who flew confederate flags" in order to convince them to stop voting against their interests,
he would have lost 49 states.

Dean supporters:
were a cult,
didn't represent real Democrats,
were irrational,
were hurting the party.

As Yogi Berra says: it's deja vu all over again.

4. Yeah, we were. I was one of the anti-Deaniacs. I was wrong. Dead wrong...
Dean has proven himself since then. I just didn't get it at the time because I was so sold on Clark. Clark has done well to, I'm proud of him and proud of my support for him. I really worked hard for him.

7. Dean may have proven himself. The insular following of him was very cult like.

21. oh bullshit
I was here, Dean supporters were no more cult like than supporters of Clark or Kerry. That sobriquet is going to be thrown at an group of enthusisastic aupporters. I supported Dean, and I sure the fuck knew more about him than most people- both the good and the bad. He was my governor for 11 years.

23. He's done great at the DNC
However it has proven to be as difficult to break the centrist lock as a lot of us predicted it would be. Maybe Dr Dean will have more freedom to speak his mind when he's not DNC Chair anymore. We'll see. We still need some straight talkers. Maybe if he and Edwards teamed up, without Joe Trippi, they could shake things up.

can understand that being motivated by an inspirational figure does not make one a cultist.

22. Yeah they kinda were
Sorry guys, but you said you were taking out second mortgages on your homes and eating ramen in order to give money to Dean. That was a bit disconcerting. :scared:

I'm glad everybody came through it in one piece because I was seriously worried about a few folks.

20. I wouldn't stoop so low to call fellow Dems "cultists"
But dozens of folks on here consistently insist on deriding Obama supporters as cultists, stupid, ignorant, too young, do not understand how politics work, etc. I am tired of those who keep pushing the buttons, so I have begun to fight back, right or wrong. I never realized that supporting a Democratic candidate on a Democratic message board could be considered so poisonous.

25. Yea-ah!!
Dean and Obama fans get the same bad rap from the same apologists for the status quo. People who are driven by negativity are usually drawn to standard authority figures, do not understand inspiration or imagination - having little of either - and march behind authoritarians.
