HAs it dawned on you that these 'overseas' votes are from REPUBLICAN state dept and other agencies?
Which once again brings up the question? Why have so many Republicans all of the sudden had an epiphany and now see Obama as the new saviour? Never before have Republicans ever done such a thing, not even at the height of the depression. Yet, in the last 25 years the republicans have perfected many very effective psychological tricks, and outright fraud techniques to hoodwink the ignorant masses. One of the oldest tricks of all has been to vote in the oppositions primary, and cast a vote or three for the WEAKEST candidate. NAHHHHH! they wouldn't do those things, they saw jesus in a cheese sandwich just like the other Obamites. Bushes will burn(pun intended) waters become chardonnay and fishes fall from the sky! ....and the pigs will soar!

1. My family is voting Obama
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 11:48 AM by Kittycat
And not for any reason you seem to think.

It's not a mass conspiracy that people are voting for him. People are sick and tired of the way this country is going. He gives them hope that he'll help work with all of us to turn it around.

4. Republicans vote Obama because he's better than their loser candidates.
I love it. The one time we get a candidate who can get a significant amount of Independent and Republican crossover votes, DUers start ranting and raving that it's all a giant conspiracy.

Lots of Democrats voted for Reagan. And he didn't do shit for them. Here's hoping Obama is the anti-Reagan.

6. Most federal workers are Democrats
including State Department bureaucrats (except the political appointees at the top). If anything, the State Department probably attracts more dovish people, while the more hawkish people work at DOD. So that's probably why Obama is doing so well.

I also read in the LA Times endorsement article that some people believe electing Obama would be great from the perspective of our global image. So maybe people living overseas, particularly those who work for the State Department, feel that way from talking to people in their respective countries and are inclined to vote for Obama.

7. Your premise is wrong...
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 11:53 AM by yibbehobba
...as has been explained elsewhere in this thread. Additionally...

Why have so many Republicans all of the sudden had an epiphany and now see Obama as the new saviour?

Because a lot of Republicans think that Hillary Clinton is Satan. Think about what it would be like if we were running a weak slate of candidates against Jeb, then multiply that by a lot more hatred and vitriol.

For Obama. I'm no way part of a Republican state dept or other agencies, just an American living with her British hubby in a small town south of Birmingham.

11. Republicans vote Obama because the only thing that can unite them is.... Hillary!
Which is why we must not let her be our nominee.

She's the only candidate in either party that can unite and rally the GOP base.

Hillary = negative coattails

the next Republican administration if Obama is our nominee.

13. I think it's just mostly rich people.
The "Democrats Abroad" have by far the most upscale demographic of any of the primaries: international businessmen, "creative" types working in Tokyo by way of New York on the way to L.A., trustafarians hiking the Himalayas, etc. etc.

Of course Obama will take their votes in a landslide.

23. What a poster.
The logo, the exotically European sans-serif lettering, the great man himself in profile, etc. etc. There's something a little fascistic about the Obama campaign's aesthetics. Barack Obama? More like Benito Obama.

TYPOGRAPHY CAN subtly or boldly define a company, product, or person. Whether it is Best Buy's big, bold, screaming signs or the sweet, elegant script on a wine label, the type talks to us, the reader. The logos of the presidential candidates are no exception.

Clinton

The Hillary type palette is far from fresh and colorful; it is begging for legitimacy instead of demanding respect. It projects recycled establishment. The type has a tired feeling, as if the ink has been soaking into the page too long. The Hillary logo has the look of an '80s newspaper layout or an investment company. The tall lower-case reminds me of someone with their pants pulled up too high. I wonder about the significance of the three stars and three stripes. A third term?

Edwards

Edwards is the only candidate to use a sans serif typeface for his main typeface. Sans serif typefaces do not have the added elements at the ends of the vertical and horizontal strokes. Unlike many of the traditional sans serifs used in campaigns, Edwards's typeface is open and friendly. It's utilitarian. In past campaigns, Edwards used a serif typeface. Perhaps he is subtly distancing himself from his unsuccessful 2004 bid. The Edwards type is very Wal-Mart, tabloid, middle class. Not a whiff of high-powered lawyer.

Obama

Obama's type is contemporary, fresh, very polished and professional. The serifs are sharp and pointed; clean pen strokes evoke a well-pressed Armani suit. The ever-present rising sun logo has the feeling of a hot new Internet company. His sans serifs conjure up the clean look of Nike or Sony. This typography is young and cool. Clearly not the old standards of years past.

19. I wonder if someone is preventing votes from overseas?
I requested 3 times on the American Embassy site in London to be send a postcard to be registered as an absentee voter and get an absentee ballot and NEVER received one. So I am screwed out of voting in the primaries.

Most of the Americans I know over here are ALL liberals so I really, really, really smell a rat.

26. Not true. Many of these people are career diplomats who stay on
regardless of which party controls the executive branch. Sure, at the top they are Republicans, but below that are non-political people.

And, in general, overseas people are from all walks of life.
