My 83 year old mother just called me |
|
She walked over to the polling place to vote, only a block from her house. She took only her glasses and keys. When she got there, she was told she couldn't vote because there was a problem with her date of birth. Since she did not have any identification, they would not allow her to vote. So after arguing about it for awhile she went home not intending to go back. She had a change of heart and went back with her photo ID, voters card and ss card. She also finally asked what the problem was with her date of birth. They told her that the records showed her date of birth as July 17, 1776! Holy crap! This is Chicago but you'd think they could purge voters from the 18 century off the rolls!!!! I told mom she doesn't look a day over 150. At least she's laughing about it! We'll be ribbing her about this one for a good long while.

Once she could prove who she was and that she was not 232 years old all went well.

8. It will be nearly impossible to vote in Dem precincts this November |
|
Hopefully our candidate will not surrender until the votes are counted.

7. Laughing and crying at the same time. |

I work the polls and the ID law is such a joke. She probably knew people in that room by name but still needed a picture ID. I once had a young man present his Selective Service letter and people at my poll insisted that that was not a government document! To make matters worse I know the young mans mother who was standing beside him. My apologies to your mom, she didn't deserve that. Peace, Kim

She should be proud to be "born" in 1776!
