Did Kennedy endorsements help? Rasmussen charts the answers.....

Of course, Rasmussen is just another pollster, but the questions weren't about candidate preferences but about the effects of endorsements by the Kennedys.

1. Interesting.
4. Senator Ted Kennedy endorsed Barack Obama for President. Does that make you more likely or less likely to vote for Obama? *

7. I predicted this. A lot of folks here didn't like it but, I told you so.
That endorsement had a lot more to do with Ted Kennedy's ego than helping Obama, and the news media ran with it for reasons of their own. Ted Kennedy is unfairly reviled in a lot of southern, midwestern, and western states. I'm not saying that it's fair or that I agree. I'm just reporting.

13. That was my opinion too.
The best thing for Hillary down here in the South was Kennedy's endorsement of Obama.

2. I just had some lady at my doctor's office tell me that her biggest problem with
Obama(Besides his Muslim ties...) was his Ted Kennedy endorsement. She brought up Chappaquiddick and everything. Called him a "murderer" and moaned "3 hours". Basically the whole nine yards. Where do these hate filled ignorant bigots come from anyway? It seems like I'm surrounded some days...

10. They've been brainwashed by decades of media and Republican crap.
Just say "Teddy Kennedy" in the south and then step back and duck. Even life-long Democrats unload. As you say, the whole nine yards.

3. Not a DEMS only poll - would expect these results when including GOP
and INDs... anything else would be suspicious

9. The point is to win the General Election. Obama is reaching out to Rs and Is.
Don't try to spin away the truth. The Kennedy endorsements do nothing to help Obama with the right.

11. actually, the point of the Kennedy endorsement is to win the
primaries. And if it's close in MA- as the first exit polls seem to indicate- it's helped. That's pretty basic stuff.

4. Anyone who won't vote for Obama because of the Kennedy endorsement wasn't gonna vote for him anyway.

8. Very likely. Question is - how many came to the opposite the opposite conclusion?
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 05:37 PM by robbedvoter
And I mean - from non-supporter to supporter - because of this. Because just as you're right to doubt the purple section, I also doubt the orange - that they were not already supporters, endorsement or no endorsement.

20. are you sure about that?
I'll tell you right now, New Jersey isn't the south, midwest, or mountain west. There are a ton of people out here who don't think much of Ted Kennedy. The endorsement will help him in the northeastern primaries and parts of California, but it won't help anywhere else and WILL hurt him in the GE.

ps - the Grateful Dead concert isn't going to help him either.

21. Regardless, I don't think it would make a seismic shift in anyone's vote.
If this was a dealbreaker, I think you were most likely not voting for him, you know? Just my opinion.

Also, I know about New Jersey. I live there :).

5. endorsements are like advertisements -
nobody admits they have impact but the key is their repitition they have an accumulative effect on perception.

12. Rasmussen is a GOP pollster
He always oversamples GOP voters in bipartisan match ups. None of his data can be trusted.

14. That's a national poll of adults, not a poll of dems

Of course repugs don't like Ted Kennedy. I'm sure it helped him with dems, even if only a little.

16. I don't see how. Only 16% of those polled said it made them "more likely" to support Obama.
That might have helped Obama with some undecided Democrats, but they were going to vote Democratic anyway. The train wreck is that more than half of those polled were influenced away from Obama by the endorsement.
