Uh, oh. Chelsea Clinton in a bit of trouble with CT polling place laws.
http://connpolitics.tv/index.php/2008/02/05/chelsea-at-the-polling-place

Right before the polls opened today at 6 am, Chelsea was in New Haven delivering coffee to workers in a polling place. She started to leave when it opened but stopped to talk to a firefighter (while still within 75 feet of the polling place, a no no) and complaints were lodged.

CT's Secretary of State Nancy Bysewitz called the Clinton campaign. They have apologized...

What the heck is a Moran? Hugh, why should I care if you are a series. Further, what is screwn?

All in all, very entertaining post.

9. It is a no-no
but I understand how easy it was to do. You see someone, you stop, you chat-it doesn't always register exactly where you are at until it's too late.

I don't see it as intentional by any means and if it'd been someone else I would think the same.

14. And ...

If she hadn't stopped for a brief chat, we'd be hearing about her snubbing a local firefighter just wanting to say "hi" on his or her way to the polls.

21. Exactly.
It was lose-lose either way. Truthfully, I'm happier that she stopped and spoke to him.

Chelsea seems like a decent person overall and the kind of person you would want to stop and chat.

26. When I saw her on local news this early this a.m. I thought how cool it would be to run into her
when I went to vote! It didn't even occur to me that she was inside the limited area. I just envied the folks there. I thought it was a nice gesture, really...

43. And I'd bet that's all it was-a gesture.
There was nothing malicious about it, no purposeful bending of the rules.

She was trying to be nice and it bit her in the ass.

45. "no good deed goes unpunished"
Of course, we're Democrats. Someone on the WTNH link I provided asked how people would feel if Cindy McCain did that. To which I would say, "Cindy McCain ain't no Chelsea Clinton!"

50. But if Cindy McCain had done it
in the same manner I'd have no problems either.

We're all human. We all make mistakes. If someone flags us down to talk to us we tend to stop and chat, not thinking about if we are in a less than desirable area.

early in the campaign she'd made it know that she had her own life and would not be involved. Now she's up on stage and speaking with reporters and now serving coffee to poll workers. I'm sure she'll be happy when this is over.

Hey, don't hate me, I voted for Hillary today after lots of thinking (I was an Edwards supporter til he dropped out). My family members are prolly typical of lots of Dem families tonight. Some voting for Obama, others for Clinton. It's interesting...

and that's what started everything.

Hell, I didn't even catch it when I saw the coverage of her visit on the 6:30 a.m. local news. I thought "how nice that she did that" with absolutely no idea she was inside the electioneering limit...

I would be so excited if someone was actually at my polling place. That only happened to me once in 2006 election. I actually met Tony Trupiano who was running against my Congressman, Thaddeus McCotter. He was so sweet and I was thrilled to meet him. Too bad he lost and we still have that loser Repuklican McCotter.
