Huge paper ballot in California! Very low tech!
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 07:24 PM by senseandsensibility
Anyone else have this kind of ballot? It was literally a couple of feet high and and a foot and a half wide, or thereabouts. Then to mark your vote, you drew a line with a ball point pen. I've never seen anything like it before. Any opinions on the security of this type of voting? Not that I'm missing Diebold or anything.

2. I just talked to my friend who voted in North Hollywood (although I'm supposed
to tell people he lives in Santa Monica :7).

He said it was a paper vote, filling in the little dot with a pen. I think he would have mentioned if it was Shrek-sized like yours.

He said he was the ONLY person in there voting -- probably around 4-ish pm.

3. that's the only way I've ever voted...
yeah I don't see why the ballots have to be so big...

The problem is in the electronic scanners and central tabulators used to count the votes. But with "precinct-counting" it's safer to use optical scanners. Even so, there needs to be hand-counting done at the same time.

6. In San Diego, I was very pleased to see the paper ballots. I'm wondering
whether behind the scenes some Diebold machines will optically scan the results. I can't remember the exact terms of Debra Bowen's recent rulings and how the individual counties have interpreted them.

8. Yes
I've voted on that for years. It's not as big as you make it out to be.

I like it - I think it's very manageable, easy to read, and easy to count.

9. I'm in central CA and I loved it.
I think all elections should be held on paper ballots.
