John Nichols: Looks Like A Good Night for Obama
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 07:28 PM by marmar
from The Nation:

LOOKS LIKE A GOOD NIGHT FOR OBAMA...Barack Obama appears to be headed for a very good night.

The polls have closed in Georgia and the networks are calling it for Obama. Preliminary exit surveys show the Illinois senator winning by a wide margin. Georgia was supposed to be relatively competitive. It wasn't.

Polls remain open in other states, so early numbers from exit surveys must be viewed with a measure of caution. Yet, the initial numbers from around the country tend to favor Obama on a night when voters told the pollsters that they favored change over experience by a 2-1 margin.

Obama appears to be running very well in Illinois and Alabama -- as expected -- and better than expected in Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Missouri and New Jersey.

Clinton looks to strong in middle-south states such as Arkansas, where she was first lady during her husband's tenure as governor -- as well as neighboring Tennessee and Oklahoma.

California is virtually tied, very much within the margin of error. Clinton appears to be running ahead in New York, but not by all that much.

2. Better than expected according to what polls?
SUSA-type polls showing double-digit (or close to it) wins for Clinton? Or Zogby-type polls showing it neck and neck?
