3. That's nice but...
I'm disgusted by the sudden Kennedy/Kerry hate here...Next time my Senators do good for the American people (remember, Kennedy was a big part of lowering the voting age to 18!), other than you Ronny, I hope you remember this. :wtf:

I understand the primaries and the vitriol they inspire, but the current anti- K/K shite is seriously undeserved. Imho.

30. I don't understand the mindset of some here...
We should support all our Democrats. Kennedy, Clinton, Kerry, Mondale, McGovern, Obama, Shriver, Clark...

Let's stop hating on our own.

24. They're my Senators too, and I think they should have stayed the fuck OUT of it.
They've just been "served" as the youngsters say.

And they more than deserve the rebuke.

That doesn't mean we won't vote for them in future--but it does mean that they need to be a BIT MORE SENSITIVE to their constituencies.

After all, THEY serve US...not the other way around. Their attempt to DICTATE a choice to us was, to me, offensive.

37. Honestly? YES. I think Senatorial "bullying" is unkind in a primary of this type.
We've got two candidates who are VERY CLOSE--almost nuts to butts--on MOST positions. If you look at their voting records in the Senate since the two of them have been warming a seat there together, there's almost NO daylight between them, no matter how much people want to play up differences like they're INSURMOUNTABLE, and act like assholes while so doing.

We aren't talking Roberta Racist versus Willie Womanhater, here. Both candidates have much to offer, and either one will earn the support of most THINKING Democrats in the general election.

Those endorsements were, in my opinion, more about JOHN and TEDDY than they were about Barack, frankly. I think their "help" encouraged people who might not have voted on this wet, windy and rainy day to get off their asses and say "Fuck you, Johnny, and you too, Ted--you don't tell ME what to think."

It was only AFTER they piped up that a whole BOATLOAD of local politicians, Mayor Menino most prominantly, came out for Clinton--almost in protest against those two trying to throw their weight around.

I drove a couple dozen old folks to the polls today, and I did hear that precise argument from one woman--who also continues to support our Senators otherwise and was a strong Irish JFK fan--the sort with the picture in the living room next to the Pope. This voter was especially exorcised by the "obnoxious" Caroline Kennedy ad, that played in heavy (TOO HEAVY) rotation, where Caroline, in a monotone, told us what we should think, in frankly, a slightly 'snooty' voice. This woman said (I am paraphrasing slightly, here) "Who the hell is she to tell us what to do? She doesn't even LIVE here! She hasn't run for dogcatcher! What does she know about us anymore? And she was a just a child when he died! She should be ashamed dragging our John's dead body out...just for politics!!!"

Like I said, the only person who had a long-term, personal FRIENDSHIP, predating political office, was Deval. I can understand FRIENDSHIP, and I can honor that.

But my Senators made a political caculation, and their political calculator batteries were dead, apparently.

38. They have every RIGHT, but my opinion is that they displayed some pisspoor judgment
and no small amount of hubris in so espousing.

In hindsight, I'm kind of glad they did it, too. It pissed off a LOT of their constituents, and it 'rocked the vote' for Clinton.

It's really just the nature of the primary season. Well especially this year since we are choosing the (wo)man to run for the position to clean this country up after the hellion steps down next year.

political observer.

Hillary's campaign is showing the strains of its weakening grip on the Dem electorate while Obama is showing only signs of GROWING POWER.

Go with a campaign that is weakening visibly or a campaign that is GROWING STRONGER?

40. Let's hope this result teaches THEM to respect those who put THEM in office.
You seem to have it backward. They serve US. Not the other way around.

I don't intend to 'not' vote for them in future, but I do think they were appropriately rebuked with this result. Perhaps they'll have a bit more respect for, and consider the feelings of those who put them in office in future, and avoid contentious endorsements that might, in the end, serve to have the OPPOSITE effect than what they intended.

Obama probably would have done better without their "help." Like it or not, those endorsements served as a GOTV--for Clinton.

41. Respectfully disagree.
John Kerry and Ted Kennedy have been loyal public servants, and steadfast champions of liberal causes for years. They deserve our respect, even if not our support. Obama was polling in the low 20s before that endorsement, this helped.

42. Yes, they have been loyal public servants. And we have been VERY loyal constituents.
Consideration, to say nothing of respect, is a two way street. They work FOR us. They don't OWN those seats, we give them to them, every six years.

By their frankly unnecessary endorsement, they split the group that has supported them all these years. Way to divide, instead of unite--and it was more about them than Obama--IMO. They wanted to demonstrate that they had "weight" and they miscalculated on this one in a big way. As I said, they have been REBUKED, as they should have been.

Gee, I need to stop believing what I read on this board, I guess! All day today I was told that Clinton would have her ass handed to her in MA, that she was toast, that Obama would crush her.

I do think that the Senatorial Two-Fer energized her base here in a big way--unless all those polls that were being thrown up here were total bullshit.

That said, I don't hold grudges. I'll send Kerry a note and tell him I think he was an ass, but he still has my vote in November. Maybe he'll listen a bit more carefully to us in future.

Barbara Boxer has it right--she's waiting to see what her constituents want her to do.
