IDAHO: Idaho Statesman: Obama Supporters Overwhelm Ada County Caucus

Largest single-site caucus in the nation tonight. Regardless of who wins overall tonight, this is a beautiful development for Democrats overall, and for Idaho Democrats especially.

Way to represent, Idaho! It's gotta be hard out there for a Dem.

1. That is the most beautiful story I've read all day!
How incredible to think of all those voters showing up to cast votes for a Democrat.

5. It's hard out there for a Dem!
I think it's uplifting, and encouraging, that Democrats in one of the reddest states in America turned out in such a fashion.

12. I was totally energized by the amazing turnout at the Iowa Caucuses,
but it was slightly tempered by the fact that Iowa's a swing state - this really is something else to see in such a traditional Repub stronghold...

7. "Larry Craig, look around!"
Oh, that's priceless.

7:45 p.m.: 'The cool thing to do'
Submitted by Kevin Richert on Tue, 02/05/2008 - 7:48pm.

State Democratic Party Chairman Keith Roark just finished working the crowd.

Roark, a Hailey attorney, said being an Idaho Democrat has always been the right thing to do. "Tonight, it's also the cool thing to do."

The caucuses have drawn overflow crowds not just in Ada County, but in several other Idaho counties.

"And you know what? Jim Risch, Bill Sali, Larry Craig, look around."

10. A new Obama cheer: "Gora!"
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 10:32 PM by VolcanoJen
It's a Basque thing... huge population in Boise!

Idaho Caucus Live Blog:
http://voices.idahostatesman.com/richert

Delivering the nominating speech for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, Boise Mayor Dave Bieter closed by leading Ada County Democratic caucusgoers in a one-word cheer:

Gora.

It's a Basque thing, and it had the press folks scrambling for a translation. It seems, from a very quick Google, to be a cheer.

I'll defer to you linguists out there. Can anyone translate it better or explain the history?

14. Playing Zeppelin's "Dazed and Confused" as votes are tallied in Boise!
That cracks me the hell up.

Well, we have a little break in the action while ballots are being counted -- and, a few minutes back, a mildly surprising bit of background music.

Led Zeppelin's "Dazed and Confused."

Not the 20-plus minute "Song Remains the Same" workout. That would just be too strange.

Sounds like a fun caucus. Must feel so great to come out into the light, loud and proud as Idaho Democrats!

I'm in love with the 50 State Strategy, in case nobody has noticed. ;-)
