Kerry: stop harrassing people who aren't 100% behind me...

sure he probably hasn't said it yet, but here's why he should:

It looks like he's getting a million dollars a day right now. That's over 200 million by the election. Keep at it folks.

Volunteering for Kerry and sending money is tremendously more productive than all these threads harrassing folks here in the DU who are not 100% behind Kerry.

I just don't understand the point? Has harrassing folks ever worked? Has it ever turned people around and "miraculosly" made them decide to donate time and money? Has it ever been the deciding factor in getting people to vote for your Guy/ Gal?

Besides, do y'all really think that the number of DUers here will ever be the deciding majority that ever swings any national election.

If it could or did, what does that say about Kerry's "electability".

I personally believe that alot of this harrassment has nothing to do with getting Kerry elected as much as it has to do with personal meanness and being able to be mean to people and and getting the chance to do it and getting other people to hoot and hollar in your favor in a public forum and the feeling of importance that comes with that and liking THAT alot more than anything to do with getting Kerry elected.

And, if Kerry loses in Nov because of these tactics, folks using those tactics won't care, because getting Kerry elected wasn't the real goal,

Nobody is really paying attention to the miniscule anti-Kerry crowd anymore.

Just asking.

& this isn't really what you were talking about I know, but I'd say the anti-Kerry crowd is not miniscule, it's probably somewhere around 50% of the electorate.

And yes, roughly half of the US is anti-Kerry. The retarded half - Bush supporters.

The anti-Kerry DU'ers are a much smaller group. Probably 4 or 5 high school students.

I'm sort of into Roe v. Wade. The future matters.

We'd like your support and vote, but you seem to want to antagonize.

Nor would they want you aboard if this is the best you can muster for the party's candidate.

I wouldn't want you around to depend on for extra work if your support is so volatile.

7. It feels like you're playing dolls with the candidate.
In a handful of terms as a U.S. Senator and prior to that as a soldier, the man appears quite capable of speaking for himself.

This is a FORUM. You may well encounter people with well-formed opinions, including opinions to those you hold on this subject.

People who are not behind the candidate are not required here or anywhere else to vote for him. We'd like to have a lot of people voting for the Democratic candidate. We'd like Bush gone.

Those should not be problematic goals.

We frankly don't need the lecturing.

Your "threat" of a November election is an election long-scheduled whether you cite it as a "test" or not.

Throw in with the big picture or don't, but we don't need instruction on our share of the action.

You knew that from last night's thread, for example, and you do it again tonight.

Not much of a contribution to anyone's campaign.

If you want to help, do it and stop lecturing DUers on their focus and dedication to a candidate.

9. That will get better here as time goes on. But there are other things
that have been suggested for people who cannot get behind Kerry that can be helpful for the 2004 Election. Like getting involved in local elections, donating to local representatives and campaigning for them, etc.

Efforts don't have to be specifically for Kerry. If we are fortunate enough to have him replace Bush, he will need a Democratic Congress to work with, and that will take a while. The work on that won't stop with 2004. We can't sit on our butts once we get him in there this time like we did with Clinton.

17. Good post! And post 4 has nailed it too

Gore did not win by a whole hell of a lot.

Almost half the voters voted for bush when he was not an incumbent, and the country was not in any overt on-CNN type wars.

If Kerry supporters want to beat bush, trying to convince people who are opposed to US policies no matter who implements them is not going to help you.

That is a very small number of voters, anyway.

What there is a lot more of are voters who either support the status quo, or aren't sure what it means and don't really care but who have simply become disenchanted with bush's persona, and/or don't feel like bush is doing a good job of implementing the policy.

Spend your energies on convincing those people that Kerry will do a BETTER job of implementing the status quo.

47. Levity corrupts the morals and encourages lewdness. It opens the door

of the soul to Satan. You are quite right to eschew it.

Here is a link to the Cotton Mather homepage so that you can reflect and give thanks for the grace and strength of character to resist the wiles of the unwholesome who would lure you down the brimstone path.

78. Well put!
I, too, am at a loss to understand all this Kerry-bashing. If these folks are waiting for a presidential candidate without flaws, they'll be waiting an awfully long time!

I've heard it said (by people who've worked with Kerry) that if he's surrounded only by corporate lobbyists, he tends to bend to their will. But if grass-roots people keep after Kerry, you can usually depend on him to do the right thing.

Kerry wasn't my first choice either, but if he has a chance of getting Bush the hell out of that White House, then it seems to me we need to get behind the senator and give him our full support.

84. Night Train -- I luv you, dude, but with due respect --
-- you have to see what's taken place.

amystrange is anti-Kerry. The post is asking that people who are for Kerry to allow the anti-Kerry folks to savage the candidate.

That's why she was jumped on. That's why Nightnurse and I and others said what we said.

The moderators have indicated that Kerry is the likely candidate and we ought generally to be FOR him. amystrange and others are waging a guerilla war against people supporting Kerry on this site.

I love every syllable of what you just wrote, but don't direct at toward someone working against that goal.

91. Dr. Dean, a great man in my view --
-- has said he will support the Democratic nominee against Bush. I ask nothing more than that. Sorry if that's too much for you to sacrifice. If you don't want to do it, pout as long as you want -- the rest of us will do the heavy lifting now to November.

My precinct work with the party goes back to 64. If your record of service is longer, please accept my kind acknowledgment. If it is equal or less, you might want to re-evaluate your slam on my dedication to the party. After all, in addition to the years of volunteer and paid service, I am supporting our nominee. You don't seem to be.

'Consul' is not spelled with an 'e'.

89. Good post, zulchzulu.
These anti-Kerry folks can't seem to come to grips with a choice. I can't tell WHO they'll vote for. But this happens to be a pro-Kerry website. So they might want to ask themselves where they stand. The rest of us, no matter our favorite first choice, have past this point in the road.

107. I support getting Bush out of office...

Isn't that the whole point here? That's the real reality check - not that just because you can't see the harrassment doesn't mean that it isn't here. And just because some folks seem to think I'm anti-Kerry does that mean that I am.

Judge for yourself and don't let anyone else tell you what to think - including me,

d

108. Another consideration worth making --
-- might be that those who imagine themselves as too liberal and pure to focus on the goal at hand are undermining the cause overall.

That would suggest a certain ego-level involvement that does not lend itself to group efforts.
