7. My voting experience in AL
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 12:15 AM by mentalsolstice
I had a bad experience while going to vote. I've had bursitis in my knee, and I never know when I'll get a big muscle spasm (it feels like a a razor blade going up the inside of my knee, and when it happens, and I practically fall down with the pain). Anyway, it has flared up the past couple of weeks, and I've been carrying my granddaddy's cane, just in case I get that sheer, blinding pain. So, I go to vote today, and I'm carrying the cane, just in case, I don't want to fall.

I'm nearly to the line I need to be in (hobbling with my cane), when an Af. Amer. couple, who entered the room after I did, rush in to beat me to the front of the line (with their 4 kids), I could feel the wind off of them to beat me to the front of the line. So I ended up standing there on my bad knee, while they searched around their wallets for their IDs while managing their kids...and they were totally unconcerned that there was somebody on a cane behind them while they juggled finding their IDs. And they were talking Obama the whole time...

Yes, I voted for HRC, and I had a choice voting for four of her female and male delegates. My vote (female), three of them were Af. Amer., who are friends of ours, and a Caucasian who is an openly lesbian state legislator. I wasn't as familiar with the male delegates.

And I hate this, because I love living in my diverse southern city. My voting precinct is 80% black, and I enjoy living in my community. However, if a white woman is standing there on a cane...

edited for more information.
