Just got back from caucusing in Denver.
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 11:06 PM by kstewart33
We met at a middle school, about 6 precincts. It was packed with very enthusiastic Dems. I got there 40 minutes early and the place was already crowded. Everyone was positive, no snipping between Hillary and Obama supporters. Big Colorado media was in the main auditorium where everyone first met (we're in a wealthy and politically connected neighborhood so Frederico Pena showed to speak for Obama and Diana DeGette for Hillary). The manager asked the crowd to show their enthusiasm for whomever the nominee will be, and everyone cheered.

Great feelings and solidarity. So many people there who had never been to a caucus (including myself).

Obama carried my precinct caucus by more than 2 to 1, and so did another of the six precincts whom I watched vote. It just felt like Obama's night.

1. Coolness.
Almost all of my Colorado relatives are going Obama, with one stubborn 84-year-old Clintonite exception.

2. Thanks for the report
I'm in WA state so don't caucus til Saturday, but I'm really happy to hear these reports. Just heard from friends in MN who are saying the same as you - packed to the gills with enthusiastic Dems, all optimistic and hopeful. I love it!!!

and just listening to our caucus (#626?) I think I saw you there - the one with that blue hat?

10. I was at Hill.
I was the woman in the light blue coat standing against the middle wall in between the two doors of the auditorium.

I saw Pena and DeGette. Both gave very good speeches in support of their candidate. But you could tell from the reactions to each that Obama had the most supporters.

6. I just got back from mine in Boulder County
but my thread is sinking like a stone. :(

We had a massive turnout, over 60 in our precinct, and we went 2 to 1 for Obama too, so I'm guessing he must have done pretty well here.

Interestingly, I spoke to a woman who was there for Obama and said that she would vote Repub if Hillary got the nom. The woman who spoke for Obama said that she had heard the same thing from many registered Dems that she had called, so it seems to be a real phenomenon. I really hope Obama wins this nomination.

7. Yeah, so is mine..
But at least we found each other.. heh. Didn't you used to support Clark back in '04? Those Dean/Clark wars were something else!

9. Not at all.
I understood Clark, and understood what he represented.

Oh well, Dean is in a great position now, and well-deserved, if I may say so, especially looking at the 50 state strategy for him working out in '06 and certainly in '08.

13. I was big time for Mike Miles too. I think you were as well.
I got to be a delegate for him at the State Assembly, even though I was the only one for him at my caucus. There were so few of us there, that Miles met the threshold even though I was the only one voting for him.

So glad Dean became party chair. 50 state strategy definitely seems to be paying off.

14. Yep, I was for Mike Miles big time too.
I didn't want any part of Salazar until he decided to jump in and ruin Mike Miles' chances.

I identify with Mike Miles as a hybrid between Dean and Clark. I did meet Miles in one of the DFA meetings. He was a very pleasant guy. I got a email last week from him endorsing someone (I forgot, I think Obama) and urged us to stay united with the Democratic Party.
