By now, Romney has to know that he can't win in this three-way race. McCain is in for good, and Huckabee is sticking around to split the conservative vote, fuck Romney, and maybe score the VP slot.

Romney is toast. The guy needs to get something in return for all the money he's spent. Might as well try to screw McCain and throw the election to Huckabee.

If McCain still wins, at least Romney will have succeeded in making Huckabee unnecessary to McCain, possibly denying him the VP slot. So his consolation prize could be to screw over Huckabee instead of McCain.

5. Well, hopefully he can rack up a few more delegates first--enough
to make a difference. And then Huck will be the nominee--the guy who gets, like, 10% everywhere but the South.

9. That would require
Mitt to have the capacity to have rational thought trump his religious belief system. At this point, Mitt thinks his faith is being tested. If he is true to his faith, he believes a miravle will happen.

14. But Huckabee isn't in it to win.
He's in it to split the conservative vote. He knows he helps McCain. He's angling for the VP slot. McCain needs someone with solid conservative cred in the VP slot.

16. Nah, Romney's got tons of dough, and the ego of a rich guy
Let him spend a hundred mil of his own just to place last.

McCain won't have a fundie for the veep spot. Some junior right-wing milksop that he can intimidate will get the call.

24. Hey, the most recent rumor is that he's dropping out
:bounce:

And you what's great about that other than one of the biggest douchebags dropping out? After the surprising results today for Huckabee (not including WV), he just may come back and knock out McCain.

I think that's not only good news for the Dems, but I also will be able to hammer Will Pitt. Myself, Bi-Baby, and Will hung out at his usual haunt before the anti-war march in Boston last October, and were discussing our predictions for both party's nominations; I predicted Dodd (though I did preference that I was biased as New Englander, but mainly because he had just got the Fire Fighters Union backing) and Huckabee.

And he predicted Clinton and Giuliani. Both of us are down one candidate, but at least I went out on a limb. :P

25. Romney hates Huckabee and probably think he spoiled his chances
and Huckabee and McCain get along very well. Huckabee either wants on the ticket or wants a say in drafting the party's platform (more favorable for fundies).

30. Huckabee totally made the pitch for the VP slot on CNN earlier...
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 01:13 AM by JackRiddler
It was a downright eloquent rebuke to the attacks on McCain from the right, and a call for unity to preserve "sanctity of life and the Second Amendment." If I shared a single belief with the guy I'd be moved.

that anything is possible. I think he does have to get out of the race, though. Maybe as early as today, but almost certainly by the weekend.
