In the 2006 election we used optical scanners right at the polling place. This time, we used the same paper ballots and marked them in the same way, but they were not scanned at the polling place, they were just dropped into a box. They are now being taken to the Registrar of Voters office, where they will be scanned there. So it may be a while - the SD County Registrar of Voters says they're going to be up all night and the final tally may not be available until the morning.
