59. Dear flyarm -- I started in television in 1957 and have been in and around media
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 01:10 AM by Radio_Lady
until today. Now I am a volunteer at a PBS radio station in Portland, Oregon that is probably going to lose even more funding due to pending government action. We have already lost state funding in 2003.

I wish I had the power you infer. For most of my career, I was on-air talent, not management. Of course, I am a woman, which USED to mean that I could not even be on camera or rise to the level of producer or director of any TV show. Certainly I have watched broadcast journalism go into the toilet. That's one reason why I joined this group.

Please search for my posts over the years and check out my web journal for links to my show.

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Radio_Lady

Read about me in the right-hand column. I am not a newscaster, but I've been in and around some of the best -- and the worst people -- doing talk radio and news, in Miami, Boston, New York, little ol' Hendersonville, NC, and now Portland, Oregon.

Remember: Just because I am at the fire doesn't mean that it was my match that started it!

Peace, love and happiness, fly.

(For those who have commented a while ago that I "made this expression up" -- that is not true. This was our motto on the children's show I co-hosted in 1957-58. The man I worked with volunteered for the service and lied about his age so he could go to the South Pacific and fight for peace. That's the "Skipper" on the ladder, and "First Mate" Ellen on the second rungs. He passed away at age 80 and many people in South Florida who knew him still miss him.)

for California. I am crying. I didn't know they could call it this soon. I am so thrilled. They treated her like dirt in California, I mean the Obama team. It looked as if they were tackling her from all sides and didn't intend to let her live. I guess I wasn't the only one who felt this way.

We love you, Hillary.

54. The drive to our current media state...
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 02:58 PM by krkaufman
... started with "public" pushback against media criticism of Reagan's loose relationship with the facts;

... then hit highway speeds with the nullification of the Fairness Doctrine;

... went pedal to the metal with the birth of the cable news networks and their growth during the first gulf war;

... and hit the afterburner when Bill Clinton signed the 1996 Telecom act into law.

edit: p.s. Re: "Filling up 24 hours was bound to bring a large amount of madness." -- So much time, so little news.
