I say this with a smile on my face. despite my candidate dropping out early, today has made me smile non stop. today, we democrats and our fellow americans have taken a huge step into the history of this great republic.
today we have seen thousands of people line up, many for the very first time, to cast a historic ballot in support of a potential presidency that has never before been truly seen in this nation of ours.
today, americans have used their most sacred ability to help move this country forward, to move past the long night that we have endured for the past years under a president who truly despises the things this nation is built upon
freedom, justice, truth, dignity, and courage.
today, we have all seen something that beforehand has only been hinted at in the past, but until today hasn't seemed like a reality. and although we still have a ways to go, we sit on the threshold of true history making. something that generations before us have dreamed. from the first settler and american indian, to every slave who suffered in turmoil, to every woman who was denied her right to control of her own life, to every immigrant and every religion who has come to our great country in hopes of something better.
despite which candidate wins the nomination, and despite how the final results are tallied, today we have made history. we, right now, have sent a message that will last for all eternity, for all history, and it started with this moment, this today
that a black man, or a woman, can be president and leader of the greatest nation in history.
today, we should all be proud of ourselves, and of what we can do.
we should be proud that together, we are all americans and we are showing what real potential, the american dream, is still fiercely alive
thank you.
