Obama proved tonight that he can win in red states.
Kansas, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Missouri, Georgia, Alabama. He handily won all these states, mobilizing more voters than Hillary Clinton did. He also brought out more voters in places like GA than the Republicans did.

Clinton was only able to win in the very blue states and a couple of stragglers like TN and OK.

Obama's proved that he can take on the red states and win there, with his ability to bring the moderates over to our side.

1. Uh, those red states are gonna go to MCCAIN in the general election.
Don't think for a SECOND that they'll be "in play" by and large.

SOME Democrat had to win the primary--in the general, though, those states belong to the GOP, for the most part.

13. Don't underestimate Obama, and don't overestimate Johnny McStrangelove.
His message of another 100 years in Iraq, plus more wars and fewer jobs aren't going to play well. He's basically running as the third term of GW Bush.

20. I think the Repugs want to lose this one on purpose.
and take a breather and pass the baton to a Dem to take the flack.

but I'm not so sure anymore of the borders.

23. If they do, they're dumber than I gave them credit for.
Four years of a Dem administration will only make them look even worse by comparison.

when a so called democratic congress is kissing the war pole and forgiving war crimes?
i don't see a challenge at all, but coasting to just let us believe something when, when... over the rainbow.

28. McCain still has that MAVERICK stink. Just because we don't buy it, doesn't mean that others won't.
And believe me, those Republicans WILL come around, hold their noses, and vote for him. ESPECIALLY if Haley Barbor is selected to be his VP, and Mike Huckabee campaigns enthusiastically for him in exchange for a plum cabinet post.

Those rapture ready fools LIKE war--it hastens the day that they're taken up to be with their Lord! And they especially like it when it's a draft-free endeavor that vacuums up the poor, the misfits, and the slightly broken and spirits them away to distant lands.

32. Fine. Run a campaign of stereotypes and butt-covering, and win only the states Kerry did.
You grossly underestimate the flexibility of the "red" states.

33. Time will tell. A few of those states might be flexible, but the
ones that are aren't ones where BO scored huge victories.

He won Democratic votes in red states. How does that speak to his electability in the fall?

Hint: It doesn't.

7. Ask John Kerry
Kerry won every state in the union except North Carolina (Edwards), South Carolina (Edwards), Vermont (Dean), and Oklahoma (Clark). He sucked in red states and didn't do well enough in the swing states. He won PA, MI, and MN but he lost OH, FL, and MS.

24. Actually I'm not.
A lot of these "red" states aren't as insurmountable as people credit them with being. We've just been running bad candidates. I love Al Gore and John Kerry as much as anybody, but they are not good campaigners.

With a good campaigner, somebody who can bring in independents and disillusioned Republicans, a LOT of states are do-able that weren't before. MO, GA, VA, NC, SC, AR, AZ, CO, and on.

Because after all, the reddest KS county has 5,000 "party elite" to attend their caucus, as reported by one Hillary voter on here.

KS is a long shot, but they've been trending moderate, and are tired of being looked at as the crazy fly-over people.

19. He needed to win Blue states (too ) to become the Nominee
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 01:22 AM by DainBramaged
And that didn't happen. And he didn't mobilize more voters. The Blue states have higher density populations. It was a dead heat, and he needed a decisive win, but it didn't happen. Now it will go to the Convention.

Hillary's campaign was great, she took the bigger states. Obama won't lose those in a General.

27. most important
is to make the other side think he has a chance in those states that typically the Republican candidate doesn't even have to visit.

If McCain has to make a 2 day stop in Georgia, or Kansas, that's 2 days he's not in Ohio or Pennsylvania or Florida.

30. Make them fight for every state. Make them explain why the "red" states should vote for them...
...rather than simple inertia and habit. It's an argument they're not well placed to make.

38. For the love of God, just stop this nonsense
Winning DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES in red states is not "winning red states"

By this logic, why run a candidate at all, since John McCain has demonstrated that he "wins" every blue state?
