It Would Really Be A Slap In The Face To The American Dems If....... |
|
the Dem nominee is picked ultimately by the Super Delegates many of which are in Congress.
That would suck - and we shouldn't let that happen. This Dem nominee needs to be picked by the people - let the chips fall where they may. I fear that if it is decided by the Super Delegates it will knock the enthusiasm out of the energized Dem electorate. I know for one - I'll be disappointed and feel let down by the process.
Also - I have to get a hit in here for Howard Dean. He was on Tweety earlier today and wouldn't definitively say that the Florida & Michigan delegates wouldn't be reseated. He indicated that this decision would be left up to some voting group in the party.
Again - after we've had such a wonderful primary race - from the initiation with the likes of Edwards, Kucinich, Biden, Gravel, Richardson, etc up until Super Tuesday - it would be really counter productive if these issues were decided by committee or super delegates.

1. Super delegates have always been a part of the process |
|
Super delegates are in place to ensure that the party is represented as best it can be each time we face off with the republicans for the white house. That goes for this election, as well as future elections. They have always been a part of the process. You can't say they don't count now just because they may or may not favor you candidate of choice.

6. Exactly! They weren't "always" part of the process.... |
|
...they're an affront to the process that need to be eliminated.
I get 1 vote.
You get 1 vote.
Pretty much everybody else gets 1 vote.
Superdelegates get what? 250,000 votes?

4. So What You Are Saying Is That If This Group Thinks The People Have It Wrong...... |
|
they can change it? Also - if one did not want change inside the beltway - they can sway it as well? Also - if one had favors to call in to get the super delegate to take their side - this is fair game too?
To me they are just a safety valve - in case the powers at be don't like the outcome of the primary process. I'm sorry - I just don't think it's fair - no matter who they favor.

5. It's unlikely that it'll "just" be the superdelegates making the decision. There will likely... |
|
...be a brokered convention if it is very close near the end there, and superdelegates will probably be the first to pledge for uncommitted, basically creating a brokered convention. But otherwise the delegates would get a say.

7. Well, even though superdelegates favor my candidate |
|
I think they should not be a part of the process. I said I didn't think that public voting in a caucus was democratic and got bashed because I was "saying it because it didn't help my candidate". But that is not true, superdelegates do help Hillary, but I am honest and know that they are not democratic.
Nor is the electoral college. We need to decide things based on the popular vote. We have the technology now to use the popular vote every time. There shouldn't be more delegates given because your voters were standing out in a cornfield and my voters were standing in a hotel. It's ridiculous, and it isn't democracy. One vote, one person, period. Even if you are a former president you should not get one whole delegate all to yourself. You should get ONE vote. That is how democracy works.
I wonder how the people will respond if this election is decided on superdelegates.
(likewise, I do think that FL and MI voters should NOT be disenfranchised. If they can't seat them as they are, then they should re-hold the FL and MI elections after the rest of us have voted and then seat those delegates... but their voices DESERVE to be heard. One vote, one person.)
