Counting of ballots going extremely slow in California
Results are not expected until the early morning, in San Diego County. We voted by touch-screen (Diebold) in 2004, optical scanned paper ballots in 2006, and optical scanned paper ballots today - but in 2006 each voter fed the ballot into the scanner at the polling place. Today, the ballots were simply dropped into a box and will all be scanned inside the offices of the Registrar of Voters. So it's a much slower process this time. This is being reported now on 11:00 news shows on the local stations. I wouldn't expect to see definitive totals tonight...

2. I don't know. They're not counting them at the polls, they took them all to
the Registrar of Voters - some of them are just now arriving.

6. Depends on the location
I fed mine into the reader at the polling location, and I am in Los Angeles.

3. We Had The Optical Scanner (LA County)
for the first time. I much prefer the hand counting. And I really don't understand why they can't make a ballot that clearly and easily allows the voter to see what they voted for. I triple checked mine.

4. My friend who lives in North Hollywood said that he had the kind like you had
in 2006.

At first the scanner wouldn't take it. The polls person said "you filled it out wrong". Well he didn't fill it out wrong, and he and another poll worker tried two or three more times unsuccessfully. The poll worker finally overrode it manually and somehow they were able to confirm it took the ballot,.

Do you find it troublesome that you weren't able to verify your vote was scanned and counted?

5. I Voted In Illinois And We Fed The Ballots Into A Scanner At The Polling Place ......
before we were done. This was a way for us to make sure that we didn't goof up on the ballot and also for Illinois to record and report the vote counts faster. I'd be suspect if someone else actually scans the ballots as you indicated in California.
