I heard on one of the news outlets that Clinton hired an acting coach...
...as a "consultant". Is there any truth to this? I'm asking because I can't find anything on it, and would like to either investigate further, or file it away as a silly rumor. Thanks for your help.

3. Ok, if that's the case, it would make sense...
...All this campaigning has obviously taken a toll on her, and her voice appears to be very near gone.

14. And speach writers...
...but acting coach? I've never heard of that before, if in fact it is true which I've yet to determine

2. isn't it obvious?
She's been well coached, which has transformed her from a "D" speaker to a "C" speaker. Still boring and uninspiring, but not like the sound of fingernails on a chalk board.

4. Well, the report eluded to the fact that she's been working with...
...an acting coach for about 3 months, which would make me very, very suspicious of her "tears" recently. Again, I was listening to this in the background while I was working on a paper, so I didn't catch the whole thing. Since most of you guys are much more informed than I on this, I'm asking here. Not making accusations, just asking questions.

8. Tears = 100% contrived
Every line Hillary uses is rehearsed.

11. Everytime a politico gets on soapbox, it's to deliver a pre-packaged contrived
message. How can people be so naive in 2008.

5. Hiring either one would make sense
for any of the candidates.

It is amazing to me how many people base their votes on appearance and presentation alone. That is simply how our society works.

Did you ever read any of those The Selling of the President books? I think there were a couple of them after the Nixon wins. I read them a long time ago.

I went to a dinner at a nearby Congressional district a couple of years ago, where the Democratic Congressman was retiring. About a half a dozen hopefuls were trying to get an endorsement from him, and were working the crowd. I did not have to see them working the crowd to know who they were. They had all worked on their appearance and presentation.

Anyone who works in the communication industry does this, too. My son had a voice and drama coach as a part of his undergrad course work for a degree in communications.

Lincoln would never make it in this day and age. Some historians report that he had a nasal, unappealing voice. And all of us are looking forward to a President who can put a sentence together in an intelligent manner, without using the terms "terra" and "nucular." I suppose that is only part of the reason * had to steal his elections rather than win them.

I don't think it is unusual of silly for Clinton to do this, if it is true.

6. Some good points! Thanks for the unbiased take...
...although I'm gonna disagree with you on the Lincoln point. Ross Perot has a very unappealing voice, demeanor, general presentation in my opinion. And he's basically the reason Clinton got elected.

9. Well, I'm actually trying to get some input from DU to determine...
...if this is a rumor or not. And from what has already been posted, I'm not the only one who has heard this. So, take your snotty attitude and rolling eyes somewhere else. I'm trying to find out the facts, not start rumors.

15. Right.... You convert a "voice coach" to an "acting coach"
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 07:19 AM by hlthe2b
and expect anyone to believe you aren't just hauling out RW talking points?

I voted for Obama, btw, but I am sick at "supposed" Dems doing this. Why are we doing this for our RW Freeper counterparts? hmmm?

16. Ok, you really need to read the ENTIRE post...
...I said acting coach, someone else said voice coach. I don't care who you voted for, I was just asking a question. You're the one who got their panties in a bunch a turned this from an information seeking thread to a near-flame war.

Just asking an innocent question--indeed. Like Hillary (or any other candidate) would not possibly become emotional at times, given the sleep deprivation and the intense stakes at hand. But, it is just an innocent question to converge an understandable consultation with a "speech coach" with an "acting coach..." Sort of like those "innocents" that keep posting the email about Obama being Muslim.... Yup, all is very innocent, very sincere. No agenda, whatsoever...:eyes:

10. Hillary is an actress ...I mean that with all due respect ...
just look at old footage of her in Congress ...in 2004 when Congress certified the second stolen Bush election, the way she came out from behind that podium and locked eyes with people in the Congressional audience while leaning against the podium and lecturing them knowingly ...classic Bill Clinton ...she has learned from the best ...

12. no offense
but all politicians are actors - I mean seriously do you really think these people talk and act like that in everyday life? when they are campaigning they are putting on a show - I don't understand why people are surprised by this

Peace

18. I hope people realize the difference
First of all, I am no fan of Hillary's and I voted Edwards yesterday.

A vocal coach makes a lot of sense. A large part of that is about preserving one's voice than "acting" or how to make a speech (i.e. inflection, etc). In my voice classes, we were asked to go see a performance of that summer's "Shakespeare in the Park". We had a sheet of questions to answer about the different actors' voices. What I noticed was that some actors who had large parts in the play (Jimmy Smits, Kristen Johnston) were speaking very clearly, yet Sam Waterston (who didn't have nearly as large a role) sounded like he was losing his voice completely.

It's mainly about how NOT to wreck your voice when you have to speak a lot.

19. Exactly, and a voice coach would make a lot of sense to me...
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 09:24 AM by ALiberalSailor
...seeing how her voice has struggled lately. Since no one else has said it was an acting coach, but a couple have said voice coach, I must have misheard the report. As I said earlier, I was working on something else, and this was basically background noise, but I was almost certain the report said acting coach.
