Randi Rhodes broken promise...
She said that she would never take sides in a primary, and she did.

I was disgusted by Randi's behavior with a caller from Tenn on Monday about the Rezko stuff; she attacked the woman, who, while she may have been wrong, didn't deserve the thrashing Randi gave her.

I think I may have outgrown Randi at this point. I struggle time wise anyway between Thom Hartman and Randi, mostly because I find her more "fun".

That's over. She said that she would never take sides in a primary, and she did. (Bartcop Blog mentioned this first, I think in the blogosphere).

For my vote,I am an African-American Hillary supporter; my reasons are pretty personal in that regard.

I've known the "Harvard Black Elite" types well. Obama, Corey Booker, etc. are a new type of Dianne Feinstein "Limousine Liberals" that progressives aren't ready for...I think a lot of assumptions have been made about how Obama would lead based on his race.

1. She has always been unable to treat her female callers very well, for some reason.
I think some people would say it comes from insecurity, and she has a lot to be insecure about!

On the other hand, she overdoes her faux cuddliness with a lot of her male callers, making a total ass of herself in a different way. Seems childish.

A little Randi can go a long, LONG way!

2. ""Limousine Liberals" that progressives aren't ready for..."
Sorry, incompatible species. They'd go from DINO to Republican in a heartbeat if anyone asked them to give it up now.

I'm sure you could have used far more colorful language then you did if there were no restrictions here at DU. The various terms I've heard used to describe Colin and Condi over the years would get me banned from DU if I repeated them, but damn if I didn't laugh my ass off at the time.

4. The only one I make a point of listening to these days is Thom Hartmann.
He treats his female callers with the same careful regard as his male callers. He's also the most intellectually stimulating.

13. Thanks.
It took me a bit, but I finally found the website for the station. Looking forward to giving him a listen.

5. I know how Hillary would lead
Just like Diane Feinstein. So it's funny you would reject Obama on that basis.

I don't care how you label them, they're bound to be better than DLC centrism that has gotten exactly ZERO accomplished except for a war we can't get out of and all our jobs gone overseas.

7. I thought the woman was obnoxious and got what she deserved.
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 06:35 AM by Kahuna
edited to ad my reasons.

The woman called Randi's show for the sole purpose of spreading unfounded gossip about Barack and Rezco. The woman was tenacious in her effort to smear and I was glad that Randi smacked her down.

9. Interesting post, thank you
I have been teetering, and gone back and forth, and now I think I am moving back to Clinton. I am finally (DUH) realizing that Obama is no progressive. How he got MoveOn's endorsement is beyond my understanding. I wish I could convey to my friends what you have said so well about Obama being a "Limousine Liberals". I know some of my liberal, African American friends are so energized about Obama that they are overlooking the reality of his politics.

I haven't heard Randi Rhodes in a long time; guess I won't bother trying too hard.

That said, if he is the Democratic nominee, I will not only vote for him, but will campaign hard for him.

14. Reality of his politics
Please expand on that, because I, as a liberal, am very comfortable with his politics and stands on most issues. Hillary, not so much. He was a natural choice for me, so I'm genuinely interested in your take on where he goes wrong on the issues.

12. Talk shows and their hosts:
Interestingly enough, I have never "grown into" talk radio at all. I remember when Rush was a new phenomenon. I heard people talking about him, listened once, and never tuned in again.

I have just never been interested in hearing talking media heads spout opinion and try to manipulate a gullible listening public. I don't care what "side" they are on.

I've never heard Randi. I've never heard Thom.

For that matter, I don't watch/listen to it on tv, either.

I've heard Bill Maher a few times; my ex used to watch "politically incorrect" before it made the networks. Comedy Central, I believe. I've checked in once or twice when Dennis Kucinich appeared on a show, because I wanted to see how they would treat him.

Other than that, I've never tuned in. Yet somehow, I manage to stay informed and form my own point of view about current events, issues, and players.

If more of the rest of the nation did the same, we'd be in better shape. Perhaps it's a "Lone Wolf" trait: I've never wanted to let other people shape my views or my choices.

15. Randi Rhodes is an idiot.
Seriously - she doesn't have a grasp on issues.
I am not sure why anyone listens to her.

16. In short...
...the African American community has looked at these legatees of the King legacy as people that would help our community get to another level. They have not. They are touted on magazine covers, elections, but our community stands in a situation worse than ever.

When asked about key issues regarding the African American community, his first respose has been, "it's not a race thing, it's a (fill in the blank) thing"...he responded that way to the Jena Six debacle, AND Katrina.

For some odd reason, being the President of the Harvard Law Review is all of a sudden "very impressive"; this statement smacks of a patronization of the "White Man's Burden" variety. Also, read this post of Digby's; the end is particularly interesting:

17. Hate to break this to you but being President of the Law Review
at any top law school has ALWAYS been considered impressive- no matter what your ethnicity.

Furthermore, Obama has responded strongly to Jena and Katrina, both rhetorically and in the Senate.
