Obama is probably not getting the bulk of the young female vote.
Young 18 year old girl commented after a school discussion of the candidates and I was shocked to hear her say, "I hate Obama, I hope he doesn't win. I'm voting for Clinton." I asked why and she said, "because he's against pro-choice and he's against gays." I wasn't surprised about her pro-choice preference but I was surprised about the gay position, because she is very hetero and because I've heard her and her friends use the word, "gay," in the way that people say, "weird."

Cautiously, I mentioned, "I wasn't aware that you were in favor of gay rights." To which she sheepishly responded, "well, those two things are the things that people my age really worry about and if Obama is against them, then he's not paying attention to the things that are important to us.

!!!!!!!

I'm personally more inclined to give Obama a chance to make sure there is no one in the White House who has established ties that will make it difficult for them to clean house; but I was surprised to hear those comments. However, it certainly makes sense. If you're eighteen and female, you will always want the opportunity to make your own choice, and if your young and gay, you want to know you'll have the support you need to come out.

1. What? Obama is now anti-choice and anti-gay?
Are you kidding me? Did you bother to ask the girl where she's getting her information?

got the joke before seeing the sarcasm graphic, but it's definitely a good move to be explicit about such things nowadays.

8. This probably came from a classroom discussion.
If these are not Obama's positions, then the message is getting circumvented somewhere. However, even on these boards I've seen people criticize him on the gay rights issue.

15. Perhaps you missed the Obama Tour featuring Donnie Mcclurkin, the ex-gay-ready-to-cure-gay preacher
If you are curious about the uproar it caused, remember Google is your friend

17. I suspect that this is the source of the misinformation.

Not that the McClurkin issue is misinformation, but that they have taken this and interpreted this as Obama being anti-gay rights.

7. I'd like to defend Miss South Carolina there.
She was asked the question, "Why can't 20 percent of Americans find our country on a map?" The correct answer to that question is those people are God damn morons, but if she answered like that, she would have no chance in hell of winning Miss America. So she had to say some politician like nonsense not answering the question, but as she has shown that she's not very good at it. But just because she can't speak bullshit as well as a politician doesn't mean she isn't smart.

the word on the streets. Granted, these are very Republican streets.

10. Welcome to Florida. She isn't dumb, she's just listening for the first
time, and this is what she is hearing from the loudest members of her peers, and perhaps, her teachers.

11. which proves that 18 year old has bad information
ignorance can be cured

She must be one of the few college students for Hillary. There aren't many who want to vote for someone close to their grandmother's age.

12. This is happening in Florida.
The question is, is this bad information successfully sticking, and is that why this state is for Hillary Clinton?

13. There wasn't a campaign in Florida
It's likely the result of an active disinformation scheme by the Clinton campaign.

21. She sounds like an intelligent, informed and compassionate young woman
The civil rights of gays and lesbians do matter to the young folk. Chances are if they are not gay, they most certainly do know people (relatives, friends etc) who are, as the GLBT community is no longer hiding underground.

Here's a beautiful letter from Hillary to the GLBT community. I think Hillary simply represents this young woman's compasssionate and just point of view.

23. That would make the most sense.
The young female vote will probably be decided on these factors. Bill may have abandoned the gay community early in his presidency, but at least he tested the waters and tried to pass legislation in favor of gay rights. Some may call it, "too little, too late," but I think most people by now, understand the evil machinations he was fighting against.

Shame that the Clintons decided that the best way to survive, was to become Republican on some of the other issues. Some of it may have been necessary for the time, but there's no excuse for it today.
