It's the African Americans, stupid
Would you agree that, typically, African Americans - especially young ones, do not come out in large numbers to vote? Yesterday's results in the South show that many many African Americans came out to vote for Obama. Democrats and many Republicans are sick of the Republicans and ready to vote in a Democrat. The deciding factor to tip this election in our favor is this larger amount of African American voters. This year the blue states from '04 should stay blue, African Americans in Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina would change those red states a brighter shade of Democrat.

2. That's interesting
I've often urged Democratic politicans to remember this - that if they stopped kicking African Americans to the curb in their endless quest for the "angry white Republican man" vote, they would find a treasure trove of votes right in their own backyard.

The recent results show this to be true. There's absolutely nothing wrong with reaching out to independents and Republican moderates, but it's maddening to see Democrats running to the right of Rush Limbaugh on judges, civil rights and other issues in order to appeal to a group of people who will probably never vote Democratic, no matter how much Democrats beg them to. I hope that Obama's success in pulling in independents and moderates AND attracting and mobilizing black voters will be an important lesson on how this can be done.

4. And what of the Hispanic vote?
They turned out for Clinton.
Will they necessarily turn out for Obama???

Bill Clinton has always been popular in the African-American community...
Will that translate to his wife???

Sen Obama will be facing the first real republikkan challenge of his career.

I have watched as the republikkan machine has destroyed almost every Democratic challenger since 1980 in the general election with whisper campaigns, push poling, outright lies, etc.

The only one they couldn't do it to was Bill Clinton and that's because he hit back and hit back hard.

Even though Obama is the senator from my state, I can see where the republikkan machine can get him and I'm not convinced he can play white knuckle politics with the republikkans.

If he gets the nomination, I hope I'm wrong and he can.

As for now, I'm skeptical

5. I'm not a Clinton fan either, but I just felt those
butterflies in my stomach when I read your post. Like you, I hope I'm wrong, but I think he'll be like a lamb led to slaughter. He has been treated with kid gloves by the media thus far, but that won't continue if he's our nominee. I hope he can fight dirty, but I haven't seen it so far- in fact, his campaign reminds me too much of Kerry's.

The answer to the translation of AA votes from Bill to Hillary is in South Carolina's results, I believe.

I forgot to mention that the Hispanics I know are voting for Obama. I do believe that Democrats, in general, will come out and vote for Obama this year. These are the people who need to see their country fixed. That's your 48% - 50 %. African Americans will come out and make the difference because they feel that they can vote for someone will finally be there for them.
