The curse of Terry McAuliffe strikes again |
|
If you're wondering why Obama won the smaller states big, it's because of Terry McAwful. This is the same 17 state strategy of Terry and the DLC types. Just look at 2000 and 2004. They figured that if they won a handful of "swing states", Gore and then Kerry will win. He was wrong in 2000 and 2004 and it cost us the presidency. It appears that he's using the same flawed strategy for Hillary. Obama's fighting everywhere and it's paying off.

2. I noticed that Hillary won the coastal states |
|
with Arkansas (more on than in a sec) and Oklahoma
I thought that it looked a lot like the strategy of 2000 and 2004 and NOT the strategy of 1992 which was the standard coastal Dem states PLUS battling down the Mississippi but that would just be too hard now wouldn't it?
Every channel I hit last night kept mentioning that Huckabee won Arkansas and failed to mention that he was the GOVERNOR!!!

3. The DNC letting the red and swing states weaken and collapse by the late 90s |
|
is considered by some to be incompetence. Some believe McAuliffe KEEPING those states' party infrastructures collapsed for so long after 2000s blatant theft was DELIBERATE to assure 2008 stayed open for Hillary.
Dean has been working three years straight to STRENGTHEN those state parties that had been rendered ineffective by McAuliffe's stewardship.
Kerry would be running for re-election today if McAuliffe had strengthened party infrastructure and secured the election process.

Ignoring the heartland is NOT a winning strategy.
DLC does not resonate with the nation.
Dissing 'red states' with simplistic broad-brush smears and derogatory phrases like this (seen on DU this morning) "numb nut democrats in red states" is bigotry and the attitude it comes from is a sure fire way to keep the GOP in power.

5. That's the problem with the clinton strategy in the GE too |
|
They will just be repeating the same turn-out-traditional-dems strategy of 2000 & 2004. They will try to squeak by solely with partisan dems in large blue states, which *might* work, but more likely will not, IHMO.

7. I'd bet anything that Obama will run a 50 state campaign. |
|
There will be active Obama groups everywhere. The same cannot be said for Hillary.

it will serve her right for throwing in her lot with him. I'm tired of the DLC's arrogance.

8. F.Y.I. the strategy worked in 2000 and was necessary due to anti-Clinton backlash |
|
I'm not saying it's the right strategy for 2008, but it was right in 2000. Gore was outspent 2 to 1 by Bush, savaged by the media and still went from 20 points back to winning. What kept him from serving was not a bad strategy, but a corrupt Supreme Court. The GOP spent several million studying Gore's GOTV plan and adapting it for the 2002 race - - it's part of why they won that midterm.
I'm just sayin'...

Obama only won by 500,000 votes. He also lost most states.

The DLC has never favored a "17 state strategy". If anything, they had kind words for Howard Dean's committment to expanding the playing field.
And the most prominent DLC-affiliated Dems are actually on both sides of the presidential race. Kathleen Sebelius, Jac Markell, Corey Booker, all are strong Obama backers and all play a leadership role in the DLC.

13. Tom Daschle is also a prominent DLC figure. |
|
I don't know what his role is now in the DLC, but he certainly was at the time he was in the Senate. Daschle is a strong backer of Barack.
It would be interesting to see a list of DLC members who support Barack, both publicly and behind the scenes.

I saw McAuliffe speak at a DLC conference, and he went over like a lead balloon.

I reference this list and can't find any of the names mentioned. Here's the list I use: I'm not sure how current it is though. http://www.nndb.com/group/269/000093987/
