David Axelrod: Victory is “Crystal Clear”

The Obama campaign just sent out a pair of emails that Senator Obama won a “clear majority of Super Tuesday states” at 13, and that their candidate has won more delegates than Clinton in today’s 22 contests. That is why their victory is “crystal clear” as Senior Advisor told a gaggle of reporters following Obama’s Super Tuesday speech.

Listen* to Axelrod on Clinton’s prediction weeks ago that the nomination would be sewn up tonight, on what the American people should take away from today’s results, and on their “victory.”

1. Obama's campaign has an undeniably compelling and suspnseful narrative going
for it and I think this is a very powerful and often uncredited factor. He is in a state of becoming. His coalition is growing. The media is just waiting for his next endorsement.

22. Joe Wilson endorsement.
A TON of merit which outweighs all The Celebrity Candidate's endorsements combined. Joe Wilson tore the lid off the Iraq can of squirming worms.

15. I don't hear her campaign claiming they have the most delegates. That's the honesty part.
But Obama wouldn't know about playing fair would he? Using any political ploy available to knock all opposing candidates off the Illinois ticket. Some say it's just politics, but, I think it's an indication of character.

16. Because they DONT have the most delegates from 2/5. And, oh, what about HRC claiming victory in MI
and FL?? And renigging on her pledge? Of course, I'm sure THAT is okay, because its Hillary doing what Hillary must do to win.

Just like Obama threw candidates off the ticket in Illinois w/ questionable tactics, Hillary knows that he will do anything to win. All's fair....

37. bwahahaha. You should have heard Terry McCaulliff
claiming that Hillary swept Super Tuesday and won most of the delegates- and that was late last night. He also said it was a huge loss for Obama. No one slings more bullshit than him.

13. They did the math...
you know look at delated proportional by state... the congressional district... then used the democratic formula... to determine how many delgates they won. Evidently there is an excel spreadsheet with all the numbers in it.

17. Its because of how the system is set up...
The popular vote only determines part of the delegate count. 96% reporting in CA and 98% in NM.

The rest of the delegates are decided by congressional district. So if there are 4 delegate awarded to a congressional district then on candidate would have to win 75% of those votes to split those votes 3 to 1. Anything less than that 75% means it’s a 2-2 split.

This is why if every precinct on super Tuesday reported 98 percent you would be able to determine the delegate count without counting all the votes. Now don’t’ get me wrong they will finish counting the votes… but this is why team Obama was able to determine they won the delegate count but there might be another 9/10 that could still go for Clinton… but you would know that if you did the work to determine which congressional districts are still in play for determining delegate counts.

Team Obama did this work…

18. Jim, even Chuck Todd last night said he was basing his delegate predictions on the HRC campaign's
tally. This is what is being reported by the campaign insiders who are fairly adept at figuring such things out. If its wrong, I'm certain EVERYONE will correct their assumptions.

So I hope you don't mind if I prefer to wait for the official tallys or a statement from HRC that they agree.

41. Of course not, LOL. My point is that this "count" is a product of the MSM and others, not from here
I DO think it is disingenuous of posters to keep spamming the "win" meme. No one really won anything. We're still in a dead heat.

44. I agree ... in reality, too close to call.
As far as expectations, I think BO gained ground these last weeks, and is in a very strong position. HRC has faltered, but It's far from over.

Either one is guaranteed my vote in the GE.

Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 01:00 PM by mistertrickster
The fact that is shows how lame Hillary's candidacy is.

In my caucus site in Kansas, the Dems ran out of forms to re-register I's and R's so they could vote for Obama. So they kept photo-copying new forms until they ran OUT OF PAPER.

I had run home to my house two blocks away and fetch another fresh ream.

That's what Obama brings to this race.

Hillary brings the same-old, same-old.
