Am I jerk for thinking this? A question about the media |
|
CNN and Fox are going wall to wall over the tornados. It is a horrible tragedy that has killed 52 and disrupted many lives of course; but who becomes the president of the United States affects 300 million people and affects the entire world in economic policy and foreign policy. CNN has been advertising "all day coverage of these storms in the newsroom" and they canelled their 40 hour planned Super Tuesday coverage.
I think that Super Tuesday is the bigger story with much more long term ramifications and the media obsession with something that has affected 4 states out of a 50 state union is very disheartening. We need to see the forest from the treees here.
Again though my condolences to those on DU who lost their homes or family members last night.

Please do not look to the media to give proportional coverage to events and people.

4. Some folks around here with family in the tornado's path |

didn't go to CNN to find out what happened. They called, and if they couldn't get through, they called friends, relatives, and neighbors to find out if their loved ones were ok. That's the way it always works, I think. And if they were listening to media, it was local news, not cable.
So, a brief mention was ok (or more if that pipeline fire had spread), but the rest of the time should be on the election.
