Can The Unbanked Donate?
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 04:56 PM by andyrowe
I've been curious about this. The money has to be able to be traced back to its donor, so are only banked Americans allowed to donate? I don't see any m.o. or cashier's check donating options on any of the websites.

1. I am only guessing, but wouldn't they be treated just as you would a check?
Print out the form saying who you are and who you work for and all that and send it in to the address listed on the form.

2. A cashier's check you mean?
I'm not sure the post office i.d.'s you when you buy a cashier's check.

3. Of course you can
I sent my first Obama donation in the form of a money order. Here's a page where you can download a printable donation form (look at the bottom):

And in the interest of fair play, here's a similar link on Hillary's site (look for the link at the top):

4. Speaking as a campaign treasurer
It's OK to use a money order. Just be sure to provide the requisite information about your name, address, occupation, and employer.

6. There is nothing on the O site that implies you can use money orders.
That's what got me wondering. Plus, like myself, much of my social circle here in Dayton remains unbanked. This has a lot to do with the "worse than Detroit" job situation that's developed here in Western Ohio during 7 years of Shrub.

5. You can donate with a credit card.
I hope that helps.
