No Matter Who Wins - Half of us will be ignoring the other half
In all my time on DU, I have used the ignore function once. Now I go through threads and see tons of "IM IGNORING YOU!!!" posts, so many so that it's a both comical and a little scary. Sure, it may save your sanity to ignore a particularly overzealous Obama supporter or a obnoxious arrogant Hillary support, but have we stopped to realize that after this thing is over - no matter when that is - that we will be ignoring a substantial portion of our population here on DU?

Is everyone planning on ignoring these people indefinitely or at least until this thing is settled? I can just imagine DU having one sided conversations with people who only think in one hive-mind and those that have dissenting views will be excluded from the process. I, for one, enjoy the lively debate here at DU (although I will admit, it has gotten out of hand lately).

Just curious, that's all. Now back to your regularly scheduled flame war!

1. It's crazy how it got this way in America, isn't it?
Sometimes it seems that half the Dems want to move forward and the other half want a rerun first family back in the White House because they think the past was better.

The future will be tough and the past, well, it was full of conflict no matter how we look at it.

4. Yep - it's really something to behold
I'm just at a loss anymore. I've never seen two sides fight like this within one party. Sure, I've been in the flamewars and I've thrown my share of snark, but I think we have lost our way somewhere where we all stopped being on the same team and fractured into tribes intent on destroying the other sides debate, platform, and enthusiasm.

2. Not in the real world, thank goodness
I take DU with a grain of salt. No one in my rea-life circle acts ugly like here.

15. Me too ...
The name DU seems to be a misnomer ... sometimes it seems more like the "Militant Democratic Underground", or the Underground Front of Democrats" ala Monty Python.

It becomes the home of many sects of the Democratic party, one that tends to be easily fragmented into angry sub-sects who enjoy flame wars over "fundamentalist" principles.

At times I am amazed at how much some (and I emphasize SOME, not all by any means) remind me of religious zealots who have strapped themselves to a narrow element of religious dogma. Calling all others blasphemers.

It can be almost as if the far right and the far left come together in their intolerance to close the larger circle of all people.

3. LOL - but sadly - I never use that function - but I agree it will take a while for the venom level -
especially the Hillary hate - to end

And until it does - the response by those supporting Hillary will not be an urge to start holding hands.

5. Hey, it works both ways now...
I've seen my share of snark and venom coming from the other side as an Obama supporter myself! I think it's all about perspective, but I think there's enough venom going around on both sides, far more than we need.

Sorry, I guess I got tunnel vision between the two candidates.

10. I only put people on ignore if they act civil and try to force unity & compassion on us.
Frankly, all these demonstrations of maturity and perspective utterly ruin the GDP experience for me.
