Obama's the perfect candidate for a stupid electorate .... |
|
He is all style, like Reagan. There's not a lot of substance. The things you remember about Obama are idiotic sayings like Fired Up! and Yes we can! or meaningless ideals like hope and change. His slogans are so meaningless that they could be used by Hitler or Jesus. It's truly brilliant, and it lights a fire under a lot of people.
Obama will win. Clinton supporters might not like that, but she's an intellectual candidate, in the mold of JFK, Gore, Kerry, and her husband. Even though Bill Clinton got elected two times, he had a lot of difficulty. What the country likes are people who say nothing that makes them think. Obama has managed to stay vague enough that people don't have to think. Obama is getting the lions share of the disinterested and uninterested voters, the people who make their decision based on style and easily remembered slogans. Obama's slogans are even easier to remember than the equally meaningless Republican "family values."
You don't have to be stupid to support Obama. I support him because he's running a great campaign, drawing lots of new people into the process, and his views are certainly no worse than Clinton's. Also, while is campaign has made him appear lightweight, it's pretty obvious he's not. He's a very bright guy who understands the chess game he's playing against Clintons and the Republican machine.

First let me say, I will vote dem, however one thing that has bothered me the most about him is his statement that he can get all of the HRC voters, but she can not get his. Why is that, will he not urge his supporters to vote for her? We have to get the thugs out of office, and if he loses to Hillary, I hope he would support her as I hope she would support him.

30. There are two types of voters she won't get |
|
Obama is appealing to independants who may be inclined to vote for McCain over Hillary. He also may appeal to people who wouldn't vote for Hillary because of the IWR vote. Even if Obama endorses Hillary and sings her praises if she is the nominee, there are just some voters that will not vote for Hillary, no matter what.

interesting that your historical references seem to be "Bob The Builder", and not the iconic story of an AA man who against all odds, achieved worldwide success.

of the husband of one of Senator Obama's endorsers: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07049/762487-148.stmby the way, i don't like that Senator Clinton's husband has publicly buddied up with Georgie Butch's father, either. i would say that this brings more to bear to the current electoral cycle.

9. I agree somewhat but Obama is an intellectual, just not running an intellectual campaign |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 06:54 PM by Hippo_Tron
Stupid people don't get elected President of the Harvard Law Review.
What I mostly don't agree with you about is Bill Clinton. He was an intellectual but he ran a very non-intellectual campaign, particularly in 1992. His entire campaign was about how he was better able to connect with people than the "out of touch" Bush was and when you look at it, it was basically the same premise that Bush used against Kerry in 2004.
Not surprisingly, once Bill Clinton was elected he was very very eager to demonstrate how much of a policy wonk he was. This isn't exactly a new phenomenon either. William Henry Harrison caught pneumonia and died because he gave the longest inaugural speech in history in freezing cold weather. He gave that speech because he wanted to show America that he was in fact an intellectual after having to campaign as an anti-intellectual reneck like Andrew Jackson was in order to get elected.
I'm fine with a non-intellectual campaign if it puts an intellectual like Clinton or Obama in the White House. My problem them comes when they put idiots like George W Bush in the White House.

I did say Obama is very intelligent. I don't know if he's an intellectual, but your point about the Harvard Law Review is well taken.
I think the great and underappreciated thing about Bill Clinton is that he educated people about the issues. He talked in an easy-to-understand way yet still presented fairly complex economic or foreign policy ideas. In that sense I thought his campaign was intellectual. He talked a lot of facts. At least I remember being impressed with him that way from the start.

"We Are The One's We've Been Waiting For!" :eyes: Hitler or Jesus, either one, you're right: (especially if they had some cheerleading experience back in school as Dubya did.)

39. No, there are many reasons to support Obama |
|
I support him because I think he's running the better campaign, and the quality of a campaign is more important than that of a candidate. Bush is proof of that. My brother in law supports him because he doesn't trust the Clintons and thinks they pushed the Democratic Party to the right. (I agree, but I think Obama is not much different.) A friend of mine supports him because of race baiting comments by Bill Clinton. Just because the Clinton campaign is more intellectual doesn't mean one has to agree with it. All I'm saying is that Obama, by keeping it simple, is doing a great job at attracting many of the disinterested and uninterested voters, the people who remember meaningless slogans. I like Obama's campaign a lot.

What's stupid is a fmr. president's wife with no substance, using her husbands record AND the sympathy vote to win a senate seat and the presidency. THEN, using gender as a loyalty outcry. Barack Obama has been for years fighting tfor civil rights, immigration reform, healthcare reform....etc. He believes in the same principles now that he did in 1988. Read his books. To say that he is all fluff and no substance is BS. He IS brilliant.
