To what degree is your candidate support based on the attitudes of anonymous messageboard posters? |

A lot of posters around here don't do their candidates any favors, but I know better than to pay attention to any of them. ;)

5-10%.
I was leaning Obama. I knew quite a bit about him just from living in Illinois and being involved in Democratic politics here. Of course I voted for him in his Senate race.
The more I saw, the less I liked. I looked at voting records and listened to Edwards, Clinton and Obama. I attended campaign events.
I looked at endorsements. Knowing a little bit about how some endorsements are obtained, they counted a little, not a lot.
None of them are perfect. But I voted for Clinton. I will take substance over soap bubbles any day.
The Obama supporters on DU make me sick. People who speak dismissively of older voters, who disparage our liberal leaders like Joe Wilson, who spread Internet rumors, and talk about not wanting to smell Clinton crack for the next eight years are not Democrats. I don't believe all of them are actually Obama supporters. I believe many of them are republican trolls and disruptors. They did weigh a small amount in my final decision, but less than endorsements or records.
I can't believe the size of my ignore list. I can't believe the intelligent website where I used to come to learn and discuss has turned into such a mess.

45. This GD-P stuff seems to be leaking into the real world. |
|
I passed an Obama GOTV guy Monday. He was holding a "Don't Forget to Vote!" sign that had an Obama logo in the corner. He wasn't talking, just holding the sign, smiling, and waving.
This guy a few feet behind me saw the sign and started screaming at the guy, at the top of his lungs, "HILLARY!!!!! HILLARY!!!! HILLARYHILLARYHILLARYHILLARY!!!!! FUCKING HILLARY!!!!!" I don't think he was physically threatening, but it was pretty over-the-top. I was running late, so I didn't get a chance to see how it ended, but he was still going when I went into the subway across the street.

52. Excellent question.... |
|
with "attitude" being the operative word.
Some posters are so obnoxious with their snark lines, put-downs, digs, and general attitude-dancing threads that it sometimes ALMOST turns me away from their candidate. Then I figure, nah, a real Democrat wouldn't say shit like they do.
So I go back to reading intelligent, informative, educational posts that do help me make up my mind. After all, I was never a "Road Scholar" to begin with. ;)
