Clinton Will Call on Edwards as President
February 09, 2008 4:56 PM

ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., speaking in Lewiston, Maine, said that she would call on former No. Carolina Sen. John Edwards if she becomes president.

“There is a lot John and I have in common. I will be a fighter, and I intend to ask John Edwards to be a part of anything I do in the White House.” Clinton was prompted to speak about Edwards after a woman stood up and sad she was a former supporter of his -– but has not switched allegiances to Clinton. The woman commended Edwards for being a fighter –- and thought Clinton was a fighter, as well.

Clinton mentioned earlier in the speech that Edwards was the only other candidate running who offered a universal health care plan. “I was proud Sen. Edwards and I decided to put ourselves on the line politically,” she said.

Edwards has not endorsed any candidate, and it would be a helpful endorsement for Clinton or Obama to have in this tight race. Clinton asked voters in Lewiston to stand up for her tomorrow during the caucuses in Maine.

18. Right, Obama let Edwards run interference for him....and summarily threw him under the bus!
when push came to shove. I remember it well!

why do you think Edwards quit in the first place?

25. Brent, I've been here for six years..
I'm not planning on going anywhere soon.. I have faith in my candidate. She's a fighter, and is willing to earn each and every vote and endorsement she gets.. Unlike Obama, who thinks he deserves some kind of entitlement just because he's in this race. Hillary is not afraid to roll up her sleeves and be the work horse we need, rather than a show horse to admire.

30. Because he couldn't win anything.
You think Obama announced Edwards' resignation for himor something. It's not his fault that Edwards couldn't get the votes.

6. And that's exactly where she would put him
As VP, Edwards couldn't do any of the things he campaigned on. But as Attorney General, he could go after the corporatists.

Good thing Hillary isn't going to be President. :)

15. Sounds terrific, but I can't help thinking it might be a ploy.
Either way, the Dems WILL have a strong candidate this year. I just hope the fears I am emoting are irrational ones.

17. listened to Obama about an hour ago, he is trying to please John & Gore
When ask about how to bring the economy back during the S.C. debate Edwards said green job that he could have started in 6 months. Remember edwards had a program at CH,North Carolina giving deserving seniors monies for two years of school they would have to do community work for 10 hours aweek.

Obama said he would give the students 4 thousand dollars a year, they would have to do community service or peace Corp. He said he would build green jobs that would work with Gore's plan to clean up the air....they are both trying to get the endorsement of Gore and Edwards.

29. That would be a good endorsement.
And I think John would be very useful, without taking away from the Senate, in a future administration.
