Am listening to Hillary right now...
Boy, how awful for me to listen to her.

You can make me feel guilty if I say I am not voting for her, but if she wins the presidency, nobody can make me listen to her speeches.

Too painful. I understand she's a terrific speaker, but her voice doesn't go well in my head. Not her fault if my ears don't like her.

I'll take some tylenol and vote for her and play video games election night if she's the candidate.

I always take elections too seriously anyway. I cried when Gore lost, when Dean lost, then when Kerry lost. Maybe this time I won't cry.

1. She's not good in that format
She is terrific in debates and town hall formats, however.

5. She has a horrible pitch to her voice and it lacks any rhythm or cadence..
It's like nails on a chalkboard. She can't help it but Damn!!! I was hoping that she would have contracted a voice coach a long time ago.

24. Geez,
I'm almost 70 and I think it's too late to change lifestyles.

Your boyfriend must be very broadminded.

Of course, there are hugs and there are hugs. I am getting a bit too liberal listening to Air America and coming to DU. ;)

Forget the hug, just a bunch of smiles, okay? :) :) :) :) :) :)

17. She doesn't have a scratchy voice when she is just speaking as she would
in a SotU address. Her voice is horse now. Do not you realize that or are you deliberately looking for something to criticize? Me thinks the latter.

20. Nice try but Hillary's voice was just as bad tonight as it was a year ago
tonight. She just doesn't have a pleasant tone to her voice. Ever! Oh wait. When her voice was hoarse last week it was really easier on my ears.

13. At the risk of being called a Kool Aid drinker
I have to say - in 1993 I got free tickets to hear her speak. I figured I had nothing better to do and it'd be novel to see the president's wife speak. I was a little down-and-out at the time. I'd dropped out of school after my financial aid was cut and my dad got sick and lost his job.

I was shaken to the core. I walked out of the stadium and said, "I'm going back to school." Two days later I had enrolled at my community college, I started classes the following day. I began volunteering - became a girl scout leader in a struggling neighborhood. Seven years later (working my way through took a while...), I graduated with a 4.0 and a teaching degree.

The speach literally changed my life. I've never been so inspired to act. I'm a better citizen and a better parent because of that one speech.

21. Sounds staged
Not her fault - I'm sure it's just my ears.

There's singers that make me want to cover my ears and run out of the grocery store after I throw something at the speakers - like Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, any of the ones who scream mostly at the end of their songs. Voices are overtrained.

15. When was the last time anyone of you criticized or heard criticism of a male's voice in an election
campaign. I agree with "ElsewheresDaughter". During our last election campaign there was similar criticism of one of our female candidates and she is one of the best politicians we have. I definitely detect a touch of subliminal sexism.

Say what you like, but I would rather listen to Hillary speak than listen to the voice of the Messiah.

18. Guilty
I love Edwards and support him still.

But I have criticized his speeches because he had too much of an edge and sounded too angry. I wanted him to sound confident and presidential because it's not enough to know what's wrong and how to fix it.

I also criticized his deep southern accent. I think he could lighten it up a bit if he tried, but I do like most southern accents. Elizabeth has none at all, and she has an excellent speaking voice and makes a lot of sense.

My criticisms were not to make me like him any better, because that would not have been possible. But I did think it might help with northern or independent voters and I so wanted him to be more appealing to them, NOT TO ME.

Some of his supporters gave me hell a bit when I posted these opinions a while back. There was so little to criticize about John Edwards.

16. It's weird. As time has gone on, I think she's actually become a WORSE public speaker.
If you think about some of her earlier speeches during Bill's first term as president, she was fantastic. Even if you watch some of the footage from speeches she gave as a law student, she was a very good public speaker: forceful, persuasive, but with an intuitive empathy that allowed those listening to connect with her.

I see none of those qualities right now.
