Caucus participants tend to be wealthier and more elite than primary participants
They usually go for the candidate who doesn't necessarily represent the interests of the working class or other traditionally Democratic groups.

11. Same thing you're going to do?
You'd easily hit the 3 thread limit if it is imposed.

3. I guess you weren't at my caucus.
As usual, you don't know what the hell you're talking about. If you can't back up that statement with some credible statistics I will assume that once again you're pulling stuff out of your ass.

4. Continue to try and spin Obama wins as not mattering
The thing is he has won 9 caucuses to HRC 1 and they are real delegates. He also has (so far) won 8 primaries to HRC's 11, hardly a blow out (not counting MI and FL which were not contested), and if he wins LA that will be 9 and on Tuesday it is conceivable that Obama will have tied or won more primaries than HRC.

6. Many of the states he has won will not go Democratic in November. Her red states could flip.

Look at all these wealthy, elite, Ph.D-holding Washingtonians caucusing for Obama. Their limousine drivers are waiting outside, with fresh lattes.

I find this highly fucking disturbing.

26. Wrong. Absolutely wrong.
200,000 Democrats participated in today's caucuses. Unless WA has a population of over 20 million people...

13. a few people I spoke to about a caucus said they couldn't go due to watching the kids
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 09:49 PM by adapa
as a mom, I have to say I could not imagine brining my kid to those mad houses. I've always brought my son into the voting booth with me & talked to him while I placed my mark. It's a shame mom's can't vote in the primary's unless they find someone to watch the kids who in turn can't vote.

Anyone else think this system disenfranchises the woman's vote?

14. There were a lot of little kids and babies at my caucus.
It didn't seem to be a problem for them or their parents.

21. It really depends on the kid-my 8 yo is addhd-that would be the *worst* place for him
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 10:05 PM by adapa
even when my son was 4, I had to put a leash on him in public places. Babies are easy- it's the mobil uncontroable kiddos that can cause probems
respectfully, until you have a kid you don't understand.

24. Respectfully, how do you know I don't?
I know there are some kids who don't do well in those situations, but most can handle a crowd for a short time. At my caucus there were a large number of ambulatory small children, mostly well-behaved, a few not so much, but all handling it well enough for the parents to finish voting. I'm just saying that there's nothing unusual about people bringing little kids to these things.

I would definitely agree that for some people the caucus system is not be the most convenient way to pick candidates.

30. All I know is that you don't seem to be hearing me when I speak to the difficulties of brining a
highly energetic child to a crowed, loud, place with lot's of other people. Not all children are mild mannered.
Now you can go on about "well such & such did this or that" But I know if I tried to bring my child into a situation like that for hours, it would have been hell for me, my son & every person within ear shot.

All I'm saying is that by choosing to vote in this way, it disenfranchises people, caregivers (woman) looking out for old & young and working people. In a party that professes to care about the little guy it certainly makes it hard for us to vote. Oddly enough those two groups are usually woman and lower income people.

31. I don't disagree that the caucus system isn't the best.
Edited on Sat Feb-09-08 11:16 PM by ocelot
It is inconvenient for a lot of people for a lot of reasons, and probably should be changed in those states that have them. All I said was that many people can and do bring their children.

17. Speaking as a caucus participant(and delegate to the County convention)
from the 29th district in Washington State. If those who attended were wealthy? I would like to know their secret. Didn't see Bill Gates, Paul Allen or Steve Ballmer there. And where were the Jags, Maserattis or Lamborghini's? Not to mention the stretch limos?

I guess you weren't at my caucus site today where somewhere around 1,000 people caucused at the local community college. Wealthy and elite described pretty much no one.
