3. Remember when conventional wisdom was
that Obama had trouble getting the black vote? Blacks were favoring clinton 2-1 and 3-1 earlier, even in South Carolina. The media was always playing up that talking point.

Then when blacks started breaking for Obama they told us blacks were just voting for him b/c he's black. So then they questioned whether he could win white voters. It was alleged that he was having trouble connecting with white voters etc. They began arguing that on the basis of South Carolina's results, instead of looking at New Hampshire and Iowa which are heavily white. Since when are South Carolina whites representative of whites across the country? They ignored the deep racial divisions (and history of racial polarization in) South Carolina. Now they're playing up the Latino thing.

They're looking to play up the race angle period.

12. I couldn't have said it any better. THANK YOU. It's the media...
that has been playing The angle of race. If we didn't know what type of race was voting and just focused on the win, Obama would have probably won more of the states that Hillary won. If I have to listen to another analyst say blacks breaking for this candidate and whites breaking for that candidate and whose got the Latino votes I'm going to scream. Media... stop trying to influence us. Blogs have proven traditional media irrelevant. Blogs are the new main stream media.

Traditional media... pack your bags you are going to be leaving for Pluto soon.

5. To be fair...

...there were 3 black people in our precinct - out of about 84. So it's not like we don't have *any* black people.

lol

Can you believe that?

7. Obama isn't going to win the deep south white vote
As evidenced by Georgia and Louisiana, but he'll win, or split 50/50, the white vote everywhere else.

16. My understanding was
that he won half the white vote in Georgia. Incorrect?

Also I think it somewhat flawed to assume that voters in the south who voted for hillary were voting against barack. After all Hillary has alwasy led in the polls everywhere, has tremendous name recognition. Granted the south appears to be more polarized about race than the rest of the nation, but I don't think we can draw any conclusions yet about what Hillary's southern base will do in the GE.

20. He's won my Deep South white vote!
And my wife too, we both voted for him in the Georgia primary. (She looks whiter than me, though!) I think that there is a definite age gap, as far as this goes, though...

8. It is the caucus
No one checks for eligibility to vote and for residence. People just come and vote.

Primaries are more strict and the ones that he won are mostly black voters.

Listen to the exist polls - how many people vote for Obama because of his ideas and his plans? No they vote for him because he is charismatic, eloquence and, yes, black.

Why don't divorced white women not vote for Clinton? Because she did not divorce her husband.

17. to be fair, the 400 Obama voters at my caucus in Kansas
70-80% of them were black. That was probably true in most of the urban areas - KCK, Lawrence, Wichita, Topeka. And that's probably most of the population of Kansas. I'd be interested to see results by county.

22. In spite of all evidence to the contrary eh?
It's not really debatable at this point because he clearly can attract white voters. Even when he lost the white vote in S. Carolina it was by fairly small margins.

Herman, just because you wish it were so, does not mean it is.

23. Obama has trouble with old white people, Hillary's core voters
Hillary's core voters are older white people.

Obama is pulling half the women and over half the men. He's pulling half or more of whites and 80% of blacks in many states.

In the general election will old white Democrats vote to curb Social Security, cost of living increases, medicare? Will they vote Republican instead of Obama? I think they will vote their interest, and vote Obama. I do not consider those votes going to Hillary as being racially motivated. Older people are often more comfortable with older people, and many such voters clearly prefer someone close to their age to be president, if they can get such a person in their party.

I think most of Hillary's voters will come on over to Barack in the general election. They didn't pick her because she's white, but because she's over 60 years old.

26. 'heavily black.' Um, there are no majority black states.
Every state he's won is majority white.

But, I know your story. "Black people vote on racial pride, white people vote on issues."
